^It has to be the purity factor with whisky and some other spirits. I remember my dad had a slightly higher than normal bilirubin count once and the doctor asked him what did he drink and on his reply the doctor told him that the problem with beer is the impurities and he was better off drinking spirits.

I myself thought that whisky was the answer due to the very mild hangovers being experienced, but this time last year I was diagnosed with fatty liver "like someone with hepatitus", "extremely unusual to come across it someone your age" and an "extremely high" bilirubin count. Well at least according to my first doctor, when I went back the following week with the missus prepared for the worse, the first doctor was off and her partner at the practice told me it was absolutely nothing to be worried about and was completely recoverable in a short time, but half laughingly from the back of his hand said it was down to my love of fine whiskies.

In any event, within two months everything was back to normal, so it couldn't have been that bad.

Another interesting point, I went to a dietician and she said it's not the alcohol alone that causes fatty liver, but the energy value and combined with sedentry life style and the wrong food, which in my case was lots of rice and bananas, then you would definitely get it. She said the energy from the alcohol and food goes out to the muscles and if its not being used goes back to the liver.

Indeed, all doctors and the dietician said it is okay to drink in moderation.

So, where does this lead me? Well, I am convinced that whisky in moderation is the best form of alcohol to consume. And as long as you are eating healthy and burning of the calories it is unlikely to do you any harm. Sadly, I'm too frightened to drink it now, I purchased some bottles the beginning of April and other than a couple of shots, I haven't touched it.
