Re: Ivy League style for today

Trivia:

Alvin S (pictured above) is the father of d&b artist Adam F, who made the 90s UK charts with Circles.

Circles samples Bob James Westchester Lady.  I'm not entirely antipathetic to d&b, but Circles is crap, and the original is a classic.

N.B. The above is from memory, and I can't be bothered to check it, so I may well have dreamt some/all of it.

I quite liked Circles, it was a good tune. I sometimes wonder if Alvin Stardust gets mistakingly attacked for being a pedophile?

Re: Ivy League style for today

I knew some hardcore d&b heads at the time, who introduced me to the tiny minority of the music that was decent, some of which I used for DJing purposes back in the 90s.  Imo the good stuff makes Circles sound crap; sorry!

Also, you're a jazzer Oo?  I suspect BJ is off your radar, but his 1st 4 albums are heavy.  (There's a reason he's the 2nd or 3rd most sampled artist ever.  Ever.  JB is no. 1, and I think Clinton might beat BJ to 2nd place.)

It was like any type of new musical genre, you had talented artists, and those that just exploited it. Hip-hop was always my gate way drug, I think this is why I share your enjoyment of jazz fusion. And ball-clamps.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think you'd be surprised at how well followed it still is my friend is the photographer for a lot of DnB artists, and many of them were the ones that we started out listening to at the beginning in 93-94 But I think the bubble changed a few times, garage, breaks, crack-house? and of course dubstep. What's my point, oh yeah I know a photographer, that was my point.

Lisa Goddard, was a bit cheeky. I've been getting into a bit of Yé-Yé music at the moment, you can't beat vintage tail.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Hey Bob & Tom, remember there was a Spectre character over at modculture?? He sounds just like this fellow, even down to the same skull avatar... he was a ben sherman revival mod and not even remotely versed in Ivy.

Over at MC he insulted many, he was a solid troll... and one of the ones that brought the forum down... He spent his time giving insults and **questionable advise**, and then one day posted the first picture of himself with the most ill-fitting white 501s this side of the galaxy and a horrible non-matching coat + polo... obviously grand laughter and great ridicule followed and he then complained to Dave of abuse...which I found strange because he obviously seems to like the attention.

Re: Ivy League style for today

The biggest Trolls on MC were the moderators, bar Hipshaker Dave, Rowly and Dave W the rest of them were more than capable of snide comments. As someone who has had the misfortune to meet them in real life I can tell you NONE of them would "push their luck" to your face. Of course the worlds biggest internet troll who spent his time on there wasn't a moderator,  but used to be.

Speccy's seems alright to me, a bit brutal but brutal can be funny, for a bit.

Checkmate was hilarious one of the many people that were scribbled on to Sogg's death list.
