Re: Ivy League style for today

Woohoo! It all kicked off after my last post, didn't it? Glad to have sparked some lively conversation, even if much of it has been of limited critical merit.

I'm slightly saddened you felt the need to delete your post, Leer, and glad Soggybottom quoted it, as it was the most constructive thing anybody said. In reply, I don't really like tucked-in shirts, either for the look or the way they feel, especially on baking hot days rushing around town on my bike. I did consider tucking it in for the photo to show off my belt, but then that wouldn't be an accurate representation of what I was wearing. Funnily enough I did start the day wearing socks and a G9, but it got much too hot for the socks, even though they were very thin, breathable bamboo-fibre ones. And I felt the Harrington was too easy a choice, I wear mine to death and fancied something different. Nor do I like my clothes ironed, which suits me fine because I'm not especially keen on ironing. I like to wear nice clothes in a way that says I don't give a fuck (you got that right, Soggy!). I can't remember where (one of you will probably know), but someone talks about Ivy League students wearing penny loafers with Duck tape around them as a mark of not giving a fuck about it, an attempt at an old-money look that is never too concerned with being creaseless, mended or new. I liked that a lot (I know campus style is not equivalent to IVY proper, but I take inspiration from both).

So thank you for all your comments, I always feel I learn a lot from this forum and glad to have briefly been the focus of such intense scrutiny. I can't wait for my next opportunity to show you how the kids on the street are experimenting with Ivy, hah! Or maybe I'll iron those trews, don a Harrington, some socks and penny loafers and give you that classic look you've been after.

By the way, Leer, I'd take advice from you over Gok Wan (or Goodyear Welt) any day.

Max

Wyaw threads always have this type of bother, i say we do away with it and just have, what are heikki and ville wearing today.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think OCBD read Soggy's last comment about buying something worth looking at and went mad with accessories.

Re: Ivy League style for today

There is a difference between old money wearing well made worn in clothes that end up with that cloth hue and worn shapeless look and just not ironing something and throwing on a stiff jean jacket over the top. A look that takes less lead from golden year campuses and more from punk. I'd never attempt to give anyone looking like that any advice, I wouldn't know where to start, nor would I want to. It doesn't look good in any sort of way, let alone in an Ivy style. If you think its acceptable to walk around looking like thats great. Not for me, the older you get the worse it'll look. If Max is happy with it, good luck to him.

Ox is just Ox, same old, same old. Bag looks good for the beach, the office or gym it looks like a bit of a hassle for.

Maybe Leer should buy himself a Barbie doll to play dress up with?

Are people picking fights on here?  Play nicely.

Does Rip, Rig and Panic come back at all?  I enjoyed his posts and he never insulted me.
