I'm wearing long johns under that lot though.... and a pair of magic gloves.
I'm so pleased that the print shirt thing is such a controversial topic for some on here. Well maybe controversial is the wrong word... but I'm glad it has polarised opinion anyway.
Geezer Ivy? Just another revisionist term for some of us to shoehorn things like sheepskins and Crombies into the look, innit? 'Ivy with a twist'......
I dont think you can premeditated being a slob. It just comes to me naturally!
Now where did I put my socks?
Re. looking scruffy = old money ivy:
Firstly, the whole thing was scruffy by the standards of the time; by today's standards, their scruffy is smarter than 99% of the male population. Also, the uncouth thing was very minor and only seen on campus. The reason it made the press because it was so unusual. There's only 1 photo in existence of someone wearing Weejuns taped up; when considering how many photos there are of American males in the 50s and 60s, that says it all.
Look at the photos from back in the day: scruffiness was only on campus, and only seen on youngsters. Teenagers can get away with things that grown men can't.
No offence to anyone.
Got to agree i just dont see the scruffiness in Ivy!
There is a casualness but scruffy in modern day terms no.
Those perma-press shirts tucked themselves in.... and they got you up for work in the morning,
I agree and who am i to preach to anybody i probably look a complete idiot most of the time anyway. It seems to me though you can have a checklist of all the gear but it’s the way you put it all together that counts really. Max goes his own way and good luck to him but i couldn’t see myself wearing a Shetland without a shirt underneath, for me it takes away from what i am trying to achieve. The same go's for uncared for footwear ,i do have shit kickers but i look after them. The old money bit was about passing stuff down generations apparently ,you wouldn't be able to do that if you treated all your stuff like shit.
I am not trying to kick Max in the balls though good luck to him and his interpretation of Ivy.

Max did write 'comments appreciated'. I did think he may have been on a wind-up so I didn't initially comment.
