Re: Ivy League style for today

At the end of the day it doesn't matter if H's jacket is too long or too short, what is important is the fact Yuca and I actually agreed on something. We've witnessed a miracle today. And I for one have been humbled by it.

They don;t looks shorter because you can see the rise of the cords.

You reckon the two suits above (both short) would look better if you could see a similar rise in the trousers? You're a better man than me if you can tell one is an inch and half longer than the other and I don't doubt you can tell as you have years of experience dressing people by eye.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Well you can't see the rise in either suit, but I think the herringbone suit is shorter by at least an inch, which again doesn't sound a lot, but if I hemmed your trousers or did your sleeve an inch too high, you'd know. Also putting that a side, I do think the longer jacket in the thrid picture does look better too. And again just to reiterate, I do like short jackets, I think they work well some times, like the one soggy posted, but he is tall and thin, if he wore long jackets, he'd look really odd. Same reason he doesn't like hi-rise trousers. They elongate him.

The fabric won't be available for up to 3 months, it's currently being made over in India, if you want some I'll get you some, but you really don't want me making you a jacket!

Re: Ivy League style for today

If I can ever afford to get my tailor to make me a jacket (doubtful) I'll take you up on that, thanks.  Summer jackets are a big gap in my wardrobe.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I'll find the vid, it is a man, Marvin Gaye, who was very tall, in a high-rise tapered trouser with a long jacket, and yes I know it's more of a American Continental cut, (i think), but it really looks ridiculous having those features on a tall, thin man's suit.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think the style was the American Continental. My point is, not matter how long the jacket, a tall thin man, looks ridiculous in a hi-rise trouser, which was the point Soggs used to make when we would go on about hi-rise slacks.
