Re: Ivy League style for today

I avoided the tricky question of socks by not wearing any. As for the weather WM it was snowing 2 days ago, now it is quite nice and sunny.

Nice stuff chaps. That Madras looks fantastic H, I'll deffo put an order in, just waiting to see how this green ones gonna be on my arms.

I think your socks are blending in a bit more than Ox's, I wouldn't wear them myself but at least you've avoided the Wacko Jacko look.

Re: Ivy League style for today

This whole white socks debate has been thought provoking and dare I say it “life changing”
If I may I would like to tip toe across the line and start a whole new ball game.
Namely White underpants! Sure they have their disadvantages, not being very good at camouflaging skid marks for one.
But to borrow a phrase from WM when “Really  crispy” and fresh they are wonderful, don’t you think?

Re: Ivy League style for today

Thumbing through Hollywood and the Ivy Look this afternoon, and struck by the pervasiveness of the white / cream sock.  It's everywhere.  Perkins, Lemmon, McQueen, Newman, Wagner.  I'm saying it's a totally valid, going as far as necessary, Ivy option.  Again, I always draw from boom years inspiration.

Re: Ivy League style for today

In Ivy terms it is fine IMO, Soggy thinks it looks shit but he is not ivy. personally I see yours as a bit of a throw back look and you lend to it WM, I wouldn't adopt it but you get away with it. White socks carry strange cultural baggage in the UK.

Re: Ivy League style for today

Happened to be attending a talk/slide show  on this area (when I was a home counties modernist) in the '60s:

Grey Keydge  herringbone sack
Black Buzz Rickson Sweat
Natural/Light tan Levis Sta Prest  cords
Natural Tanner Leather belt
Brown (muted with a slight waxy dressing) Split toe Paraboot slip on (hard to get)
(green/black) RL Rugby striped socks (50% in closing sale)

To get me there:
Light Grenfell Raincoat - indeterminate age
Black narrow brim Bates trilby (Soho model)
