Yes it is Sherlock. Like I said a mile ago, soft shoulders are an international style, its not just done in America. I'm cool with whatever you wanna say. It seems that there is little room for any sort of progression in some peoples wardrobes, which is ok by me. I can't help but refer back to a PM by a guy I had whom said the best Ivy jackets he has bought recently were by Paul Smith, still he was American and has dressed in soft shoulders since the 60s. I'm not hung up on anything, I don't feel the need. I also had a PM from a menswear consultant telling me that Ivy was in the shoulders, the rest is detail. So I'll just take from it what I want to and you can do the same. If people don't like my school of thought thats cool with me.
Ivy is like the American "Grunge" style. Kids adopted existing clothing - torn jeans and flannel shirts - and wore them to achieve a certain look. They needed to have the details in place - dirt, grease, just enough holes, converse, to differentiate them from some average joe wearing the same flannel. Same silhouette mind you. The maker of the flannel didn't say he was designing a "grunge" shirt. That was the term given it once the style solidified. Then as the style entered popular culture, the designers and producers began to market the clothing AS GRUNGE. Just like Ivy.

stipe PS trouser
navy sock

I admit GW's trousers, specifically, did give me a non-Ivy vibe, especially when they came crashing into his boots, or shoes, or whatever they are. BUT, I feel, in general, there's more leeway in the trouser department, than say in the jacket dept. I don't want to pick apart GWs outfit, cause that's not really my thing. He just asked about the outfit, wanted other people's impressions, and I just offered mine - that I didn't get an overly Ivy vibe - mainly due to waist suppression and trouser/shoe combo. That was just my gut reaction, prior to us picking his bones clean. In regard to the fit of his pants, I was just offering my opinion on what I thought was wrong with the fit, regarding my taste, and we all know what that is. Not to mention, in light of his lambasts against my nipple cradles, I felt I really couldn't let him off too easy, even though that's admittedly totally unfair.
I guess I'm just saying that, for me, with an eye toward Ivy specifically, the jacket's the constant, not the trousers.
But... I always take the whole into consideration and try not to get too hung up.

I just looked at the summer stuff in my old shop. Tons of un constructed Facconable jackets 3/2 roll and darted. These are not ivy jackets. They are eurotrash style. Not that I dont like them. But ivy is something else.just as a snail is not a slug details matter.
Well I'm glad you boys have cleared the whole issue up. Thanks.
