Occasionally, I like to get on Lidl's cheap alcohol kick. With German Perlanbacher beer at Euros 3.69 for 6off 0.5 litre bottles it is an absolute winner, as the beer is better than much of the chemical beer brewed in Holland by the likes of Heinkein which is 2.5 times the price. However, when you purchase two bottles of New World Old Vine Zinfandel of 2012 vintage for a mere 10 Euros, then the warning signs are readily apparent, but still I insisted on the purchase. Indeed, the rancid flavour of newly fallen Autumn leaves into a pool of dog urine, did not fail to deliver, with hints of 8 pints of Stella Artois hangovers, half a glass was more than enough to illicit regret in my unwise purchase.

One of my wruwral mates gave me a dozen of his own Shiraz, made in a shed. Wonderful deep deep brown red and heavy dry fruit taste - a wine to chew and better than  many expensive wines.

I was at a PTA type gathering on Friday night, they had no hard liquor, which I expected, so I stuck to four 25cl Heinkein beers. I noticed they had Arrogant Frog Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2011, so I bought one yesterday to check it out. Well, it was inoffensive and boring, but at Euros 6.99 what do you expect?

Sat in Poppins cafe in Alton yesterday having a full English breakfast and the town crier walked in. Tricorn hat with feathers, hose on his legs and carrying a bell. He asked if we here for the weekend and went way when we said 'No'. We never did find out what he was promoting.

After that, we had a quick look at the musket holes from the civil war in St. Lawrence church and caught the bus out to Cheriton and drank home brewed ales at The Flower Pots. Then on to The Ship for Palmers and Cotleigh (not as good as previous pub). Then the Hawkley Inn for various ales. The back to Alton and Triplefff ales in Railway Arms. Caught 22:15 back to London.

I had a panama, O'Connell old stock madras  and J Press cotton jacket with cotton trousers and desert boots. People mainly noticed the panama and said I looked like the bloke off some antiques programme on the telly.
