Im not sure it's something I'd take to I think it is too throw back. Delon's and Gainsbourg's shorter hair is preferable to me... but i was inspired by WM im more a fed. Lounge type of person than a hoxton vintage fan

Re: Ivy League style for today

I noticed that BBC show Peaky Blinders had all the guys with proper undercuts.

It seems like a revisionist thing to me. I've seen a couple of real old shots of guys in the trenches with hair like that but that's it.

Last time I had an undercut it was 1993/4 im not going back to that. There is a mens barbers at the tattoo shop in town I might wander down there and see what they can do... im really enjoyin the 50s element to ivy at the mo. Wm manages to make it natural and less like a statement

Re: Ivy League style for today

Cheers Yuca.  And the hipsters do seem to like the really severe cut, with the length on top standing in stark contrast to a REALLY sharp taper.  I just like a nice clean haircut - old school barber style... nothing severe.

Bop, your hair's pretty crazy in the texture department right?  Really wavy?  Just get a nice gradually tapered cut and then some stiff pomade, maybe like regular Murray's Original, not the super light.  When you get out of the shower keep the hair damp.  Then get a dab of Murray's and put it in the palm of your hand.  Run it under really hot water to get it really soft and then massage through the hair.  Style to taste.  At least that's my routine.  Running it under the hot water is key.  Don't just try to apply it direct.

And if you haven't actually parted your hair in a while, ask the barber if he can determine a good part.  Your hair will need to get used to being styled, so stick with it even if you're not feeling it at first.  I had to really get used to seeing my forehead again.  And experiment with product.  And seek the barber's advice.  If they're good, it will be sound.

WM, excellent as usual but can i ask you a question?
Would you say your personal style has stayed pretty much
static in recent times? or are you evolving ?
Because it seems to me you look is just getting better and better.

well done its a pleasure to share this space with you.

I will say this... any positive evolution is completely due to this forum and the constructive criticism or kudos given out by you lot (or Mrs. WM saying "you're not wearing that outside the house are you?").

WM - I love your blazer and generally your rise as well, but the two combined make the amount of shirt up top look a little out of proportion. I do think that it would look great with the jacket buttoned. Just a little feedback. I may try your Murray's trick. The product that I use now is too expensive. I have noticed that we have very similar haircuts.

Re: Ivy League style for today

OX, I respect your opinion, which is probably also the opinion of plenty others.  But, I have to say, I actually like the proportion of the long lower half with the rise coupled with the more classic length blazer.  I see what you're saying about the amount of shirt being "out of proportion", but that's exactly what I want.  In any event, it's unavoidable with my current selection of pants.  To be honest, I'd love more than anything to see you fall into this same trap.  smile

I'm a big olive and dark green chino fan, as you say WM, infinitely more interesting than then regulation brown and IMO a much better option for business.
