Re: Ivy League style for today

So how do you button your Topster?  Like a 3/2 or do you do up all three or just the top two?  Based on the old ads, it seems that buttoning all three was how they were usually styled to be worn?  More like a coat than a sport coat?

However you like, as Acton says, they are soft so even though it rolls to a 3/2 it sits nicely top 2 fastened, or middle or all 3, though the latter looks a bit odd to me.

Re: Ivy League style for today

3/2 sport coat style works best for me. I also prefer the Topsman style sport coat cuff. There are a few on eBay right now that I'd spring for if it weren't for the button shirt style cuff, which I'm not that sold on. I prefer to wear them casually as odd jackets, though I suppose the cuff is an easy alteration as Acton said, if there's enough material.

I love this one for instance, but it's on the big side for me and I prefer the more formal looking jacket cuffs:

There was a super looking grey herringbone Topsman on eBay ealier this week in a size L or XL.

Re: Ivy League style for today

I think the shirt style cuff lends a little quirkiness, which I kind of like.  It's like it's not a legitimate coat or something.  It's something... other.  smile

^I have the same issue: a ruck of trees that in summer are resplendent in foliage in greenery, but for six months of the year, the garden is depressingly bare. And yes, taking up the leaves is a pain in the butt. Evergreens are the future!

Re: Ivy League style for today

When she saw my distress over the impending leaf deluge, Mrs. WM reminded me that last year I said I was going to wait until they were all down, then pay someone to come collect and dispose of them.  The leaves falling coincides with my busy time at work, so taking up most of my cherished weekend dealing with dead foliage isn't the best way I'd like to spend my time off.  What makes it even more irritating is that 85% of the leaves blow into my yard from the neighbor's trees.

Nice looks WM.

I now know your weak spot. I might pay one of your neighbours to sekretly put leaves here and there on your lawn after you've cleaned up so I can play with your head.
