Big fan of the watch cap. Wearing one now, actually. Using it to de-frizz my hair after a shower. Also used it as a pillow on the bus earlier. Then also to smuggle a can into a bar the other night. Ye canny do that with a kromer!

Good call on the old booze sneak. They also work as a hand protector when you're punching out windows whilst on the rob (I saw that use on TV I think).
I've used mine as a make shift conker pouch too. Very versatile.

big fan of the knit wool ski hat and its close cousin the watch cap ... have about five of them from the Northern years and I always have some with me when I travel to cold places .... worn them as night caps too in very cold weather .... the old wool baseball cap can also do the trick on cold casual days but when it's very windy the bill catches the breeze and the cap can flip off your head hence the usefulness of the knit ski/watch cap .... which is why the style was worn by sailors in the first place ..... no brim or bill to catch the wind

For the German speaking members - last year I bought one of these knitted hats by "Leuchtfeuer Strickwaren" in a fisherman's coop. http://www.leuchtfeuer-strickwaren.de/de/kollektion/muetzen/grobstrick-muetzen.html
I think it is the "Borkum" model. What I like about it is that is has a sort of flattened top, if that makes sense. I've got a black one, but some of the other colours are nice, too. And the price, of course.
This, a dark navy roll neck and a burnt cork and you ready to go commando or take the dead man's watch.

Flat cap does not mess hair up so much. Ushanka is good if snow on the ground.
I once wore a balaklava, plus fleece neck warmer, plus wool ski hat, plus hood. That was in Sunshine Village, Alberta(Canadians do irony) in March. It is colder in Jan/Feb. l was warned about frostbite on a chairlift. Skiers went to mountain restaurants just to warm up.

I have a Buzz Rickson's Navy watch cap. Great for the colder weather. I've been wearing a gun club check flat cap a lot recently, not much good for warmth but I like it.
