Assuming you like them of course.........
Wigwams are often mentioned on here, but are they not wool and quite thick? Not ideal for the warmer weather and personally I prefer cotton. Plus there's shoe fit to think of, a thick pair of socks can make a close fitting pair of shoes half a size too small.
Plenty of white socks around but pure white is too stark. The perfect off white / ivory colour seems elusive. Uniqlo's supply seems sporadic.
Any ideas?
The Wigwam crew socks mentioned here are wool, just with nylon added to make them longer lasting. They are fairly thick (but do get thinner with age...) and I actually prefer wool especially in hot weather.
Wigwam do plenty other sport sock models though.
If you prefer cotton, just about the cheapest socks here are usually off-white (undyed?) mid-weight ribbed cotton. Those must be available in the UK too. Aldi?
Not currently in stock but these

The 80s are over!
60s also.
Sorry, got nothing substantial to throw in. *Pulls up his trousers and walks away, a giggling honey in each arm*

who stocks them in New York?
Are you off to NY Tom?
In September H - can't wait.
I wouldn't spend prime time shopping for socks - there are good cheap online sources for the classic Wigwam crews.

Kingston1an,
I liked that song. Thanks for posting it! I believe that, in the States, the white wool sock phenomenon occurred simultaneously with the "high rise" trousers phenomenon. For better or for worse, in the early1960s, wearing white wool socks and high rise Khakis (worn kinda low) merely indicated that one needed a bit more "swing room" than the average guy. Maybe a little jealousy goin' on in that song? JK!

Wigwam 625s were the "gym sock" during my junior high and high school years, 1974-1980. The gym teacher handed us two pairs along with two t-shirts, one pair cotton shorts, one pair sweatpants, one sweatshirt. Jockstrap was extra. Nobody ever washed anything until the locker room achieved critical stech mass. Then the coach would open all the lockers, pull everything out and pile it up, and threaten to set the pile on fire unless we took our stuff home and washed it. It was great.

Along with comments like: "It ain't enough that you stink! Y'all — actually — ENJOY it!"

PS: I buy my Wigwams at Saperstein's in Millerton, N.Y.
With bucks, I rarely wear anything but Wigwams.
