The link the FNB system gives you is one for a clickable thumbnail - copy out only the url for the big pic (http://forums.filmnoirbuff.com/uploads/910_1-img_0035.jpg) and sandwich it between the two IMG tags.

To be fair I think they were long out of fashion long before even I moved here.

And the skiing in Schleswig-Holstein leaves a lot to be desired.

Re: Best of Daily Prep

I wonder if vintage stirrup pants would actually keep you warm in severe conditions; like -15c in the Rockies when a chinook blows through? I just bought myself a pair of Descente insulated ski pants but I have to admit, I was seriously eyeing some of those tapered looking '60s wool strides that you slip under your feet. I decided they'd probably be fairly useless in anything below 0 so I forfeited style for practical comfort. If anyone's ever worn a pair, do they actually keep your and protected from the biting wind and elements? Are they just really heavy weight wool in a super fine weave?

Re: Best of Daily Prep

Re the stirrup pants...
I know them as being quite popular in the 50s and early 60s. Mostly worn with mountain boots and either woolen jumpers, early ski jackets or whatever winter gear people wore back then. Originally I would say, it was a new and fresh, "sporty" look. I recall some elder people in the 70s to wear them. Not very fresh anymore then.

They had a short comeback in the early 80s, at least where I lived. Girls on the mod scene used to wear the pants from their parents. Then, "mod" often was synonymous with "60s". Not a flattering look on most and very outdated today.

The ones I know were either wool or a wild mixture of natural and manmade fibers. They come from an era when people wore long underwear, so not too warm, I'd say.

Here's one from the 50s:

Very nice bit about old illustrated covers of the "New Yorker". I can imagine some on here will like this, too.

^ It's the same in any situation really. Use the proper gear for what you are doing. All my sailing gear is thoroughly modern gore tex and polyesters.

Looking good is looking appropriate for the situation.
