Re: Tropical ivy

It is rather difficult to find good examples of pure Ivy in tropical form.  I notice a lot of these warm weather suit companies, like Haspel, Palm Beach, Coronado, etc., while they produced Ivy cut 3/2 center vent, they ALSO produced two button numbers, double breasted, etc.  Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the tropics were such a vacation and travel destination.  They knew people into a wide variety of styles would be purchasing tropical suits for travel and vacation, perhaps even on location.  Therefore, they catered to a broader sensibility.  Just a theory...

The way I see it, people that probably wore strict Ivy may have let their guard down a little when traveling to the tropics.  They may have opted for a two button jacket, or maybe a loop collar shirt or a batik instead of a button down.  They had to get out of the Northeast, so to speak.

Re: Tropical ivy

I'm completely fine with this thread.  One of the more enjoyable threads going.  I eat all this shit up.  I wasn't saying tropical ivy doesn't exist in this thread, I've just found it more difficult to find examples of it when searching for contributions to this thread.

They're up there with The Ventures and The Who as far as rock bands I'll try my hardest to join if I'm ever able to finish that time machine I've been working on.

Re: Tropical ivy

Here is a question I need answer who made the palm beach suit? Brooks have a thing about the introduction of their Palm Beach suits but I thought Palm Beach was its own company?

Re: Tropical ivy

The Palm Beach brand was made by the Goodall Company.

Re: Tropical ivy

Well, it seems there was "Palm Beach" cloth, made by Goodall, that various makers would use for suits, thus calling it a Palm Beach suit.  The guy on Fedora Lounge talks to this point in the link I posted, and it is covered in the google news clip I posted too.  I also read somewhere that just a certain style of lightweight suit of the sort characteristically seen in Palm Beach, Florida, became known as a Palm Beach suit. Perhaps the Brooks ad is just referring to a style of warm weather suit???

Been covered here too.
