As much as I love university/candy striped oxfords, I'm getting a bit tired of the usual blue & white. Red & white is nice, but I can't stand the idea that people would mistake me for wearing a pink shirt; Jesus.
Stripes like the brown/white one armchair came across and the green/white one kamakura offer, seem to be the way to go for weirdos wanting to get deeper into the ivy-fetish.
Occasionally you can come across half-decent, rare-coloured, uni-stripes by searching used Gant shirts (they mistakenly label them as 'banker stripes') or older LL bean shirts (unfortunately nearly always non-iron).
I've had my eye set on my personal holy-grail, the charcoal uni-stripe from Mercer, and just as I'm about to order it, the cloth seems to disappear from their website entirely and they aren't answering any emails. Must have trouble sourcing the cloth.
It's a bit of a whinge-y post I know, but does anyone know any good sources for new/used uni-stripes in the queerer colours?
I really dig the green Kamakura I got recently.
Got an email back from Mercer. Supposedly they've rejected various batches of cloth because the quality and weight was 'inferior'. So a few more of their swatches might disappear soon enough.
Someday, all quality Ivy as we know it could be gone; No more shetlands made in the Shetlands, no more saddle-shoulders, no more 12" rises, no more unlined collars; Prep(per)-Ivy indeed

Where to get them I do not know, but there was a rainbow of them in the past. Burgundy/White has to be my favourite - Far less crude than Red/White.
The unusual colours crop up on ebay sometimes. The other day I missed a green and white Makers uni because I was asleep on a sofa when the auction ended!
Recently someone on here put me onto two lots of 4 x Makers shirts all striped and in 'off the map' lurid colours thatI'd never seen before. I got outbid on them eventually, on reflection I'm glad I did because I would probably have only worn one or two of them. I've got enough crap that I don't wear. I regret not saving some pictures of them to post on here though.
Probably the same ones Yuca, most of them were grim really.

Those are nasty.
I bought a burgundy stripe oxford from Lands End a couple of years ago, but that fact that it is non iron with a smallish collar stops it from being a great shirt.

Multi stripes certainly can be wonderful. Those are the only duff ones from old school Brooks I've seen.
I have found a grey/Gray stripe makers in my size ,but for some reason i am hesitating.
It does not look charcoal which i would prefer, so i am not sure i like it.
Any experience or advise boys?
Go for it. Saw a mid grey/white uni stripe before and made a note to get hold of one in the future.
Cheers Colin re the makers its not a uni stripe that i can tell
it looks like a butchers stripe, a bit of a 1980's vibe about it.
Ahh, in that case....
Butchers stripes don't really do much for me. Got a red and white, for that full-on butcher/beach boys vibe, though.

This is pornography. Please move it to the NSFW section.
You are teasing Farrago that shirt looks wonderful.
By the way the brown stripe uni/Candy six button i picked up last year is not actually a uni.
Its thick oxford cloth but with a thinner stripe,What would that be? a pencil stripe perhaps?
3, actually. Just in case anything goes wrong.
