Hello all
I am looking to take the plunge and buy my first Ivy suit as I have a couple of events coming up
If you were looking to purchase a suit what would be your goal? or would you be more sports jacket & chino's for example
If you have any links to the correct sort of thing or suits you would consider please feel free to post
I guess I am a 40R
thanks in advance

My last three suits (which I almost never wear) are from Newton Street Vintage. It's the best place for vintage Ivy League suits and jackets. This one's interesting, a sack suit in light olive pinstripe:

If you need one suit to get a lot of use out of, I'd advise either a charcoal grey or navy suit. Those will be the most versatile. Abstain from plaids and stripes. Get a good workhorse suit first.
I concur with our erstwhile Georgian colleague - a charcoal or navy workhorse first off. If you want it for the summer look for a poplin or wash and wear. As Sports fan said - go vintage young man! Also, don't be too hung up on measurments like 40R - they're so imprecise as to be almost meaningless - check out the actual measurements, and measure a pair of trousers and a jacket that you like the fit of so you know what to look for. Also, for the UK Ivyist you can't do better than Hardy and Johnson on Facebook for vintage and deadstock stuf, they've got quite a few suits. There's another forum member on here who's got a good Etsy shop and is putting up a load of suits soon - but I'll let him announce all that!
cheers fella's
Harpo would you pm me said individual?
No, another TI member.
Me? It's not me is it?
Yes. Yes it is.
Ok. I'll get on that. Much to do.
Actually... I don't feel like doing it. Can someone else do it?
Cheers WM, gives me a good starting point
I think there is a super injunction out on this one ala ryan giggs
Probably a girl. They really know how to put a lid on things.
What??!! Was she occupying computer or something?
This is disconcerting. If it makes you feel any better, I missed out on a big fat steal a few days ago. About 2 hours left in the auction and here comes the little lady. "We need to go to the store before they close. I need some ice cream and you need to get some more air freshener for the bathroom... yadda yadda..." Ok, so we can get to the store and back in plenty of time. So I remind myself to remind myself about the auction. We go to the store and come home and it has totally slipped my mind. We're sitting there watching a movie and it suddenly hits me.. "FACK!!!" I grab my phone and I had missed the end of the auction by 7 minutes!! Only 1 bid!! NO!!!! I was squirming in my seat and felt weak in the legs. This wasn't clothes related btw.
Use a snipe bidding tool
I use snipeswipe no more sitting staring at the screen for me
Me too - but nothing quite beats the heart stopping excitement of watching those last few seconds tick away ..... unless some other b*stard beats you to it, obviously .........
