Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

When I was a little ankle biter my father would take me for burgers and shakes at the Double Q Drive-In, which had been in his hometown since the early 1950s and remained essentially unchanged.  We'd eat and he would reminisce about skipping class and meeting up with his friends at the drive-in, or other mischief that would ensue as everyone gathered around on Friday and Saturday nights.  He said most of his nights out with friends or dates started at the Double Q.

Oh yeah.  I remember that post.  Great stuff Ox.  Nothing like a sack of burgers.  Anyone here like Krystal?

You still want car service?

There's a car hop drive-in in Fox Lake, WI called Mullin's that's still operating.  Been there since the forties.  A large mug of root beer is ninety cents.

Also the A&W in Portage, WI still has car hops, the big heavy glass mugs of root beer, and the switch you flip to get the girl to come get your tray.

And, speaking of Guy Fieri, someone bought the website name of his restaurant before he did and put up a hilarious fake menu.

My favorite is the Panamania!
