This hat has my name all over it:

I'm posting these here because I'm really tempted to make an offer and then pay three times the purchase price to cut down to size... that hopsack cloth is exceptional. I'm excercising all of my restraint right now. Somebody buy these... please... before it's too late!

I may regret posting this. I love that hopsack so much.

Man, I'm gonna be in Montreal in two weeks and I know my tailor could make these look like they were made to measure. I've got a $30 offer from the seller, I may just take it... I really shouldn't though!
Actually I see someone else made a $35 offer on the hopsack so I'm letting them go. What a beautiful looking jacket that is! An SB heavy wool hopsack is definitely a holy grail item for me. I hope it goes to someone on this forum!
Worth checking out the seller's other items btw - he's got endless tweed 3/2 sacks, suits, button downs. Lots of nice vintage kit.

The seller's a bit of a grifter then 'cause he told me he got an offer for $35. Eitherway, I'm gonna pass because I've got something else in the works right now but someone should jump on it for that price. If shipping were cheaper I'd do it, but I know it'll end up costing me at least $130 in alterations and I shouldn't be spending that kind of dough with the upcoming travel plans. I wouldn't think twice if it were my true size though.
I have a couple of Stanley Blackers from that era and they're superbly made. Macy's has nothing to do with the quality or construction. They would contract with all the high end menswear manufacturers to produce garments for their shop each season and Macy's was in fact, considered a fairly sophisticated department store back in the day stocking many premium couture items. Stanley Blacker had their standard house cuts which didn't really alter much and there's no reason to believe that there would be any decline in quality or craftsmanship because they were produced for a certain stockist or retailer. It's really just a plain old Stanley Blacker that was sold at Macy's, hence the label. All the retailers and clothing outfitters would distinguish themselves by having custom labels sewn in their garments indicating that the article was manufactured for their shop. Assumably they had stylists that would pick out certain cloths from a range of swatches each season and perhaps request a certain style of pockets or buttons, but the cuts were not adjusted based where they were sold. A Stanley Blacker from 1962 is a Stanley Blacker from 1962 is a Stanley Blacker from 1962. It's really no different then walking into Barney's or Saks and buying the same thing in a different range or fabric. You're getting the same jacket.
I should add that construction would obviously vary based on the cloth and season (a heavy tweed would be more formed than a lightweight cotton) but they would have been selected from a range of house cuts and a 3/2 ivy league fashioned sport coat with 2-button cuff, hooked vent, etc. is going to be the same quality, cut and detailing as any other whether produced for Macy's, Burdine's, B. Altman, etc. of that same year.
Sold…just checked…better for me…I have my 'go to' which is a cool gray (instead of greenish) 60's Southwick.
