Well played. Seems from comments here and in the previous blazer thread that gold or brass buttons are a bridge too far for most today. I can relate to that, although there is something about the tradition of them that appeals to me.

Gold buttons. I still have not solved that one for me. On one side, I think they are part of what makes a blazer a blazer. With matching buttons they look like some odd jacket. On the other side, gold buttons carry so much baggage, that I find it hard to wear mine.

I like the antique plain silver buttons from Benson & Cleggs, the pewter buttons which were discussed on here or horn, MOP etc etc. Just can't decide which ones to choose. I haven't found interesting buttons in my town, which means I have to order any replacements. Maybe it's that.

This thread is interesting. In America there is zero baggage attached to the navy blazer. It is the first and only coat that many Americans will ever own. It is also the most common coat you will encounter. Tweed carries more of the connotations noted here in America.

I have both that JS effort from a few years back (got the suit as it goes & has been worn much) & that Keydge navy wool one from a year or so back...which gets worn a fair bit too....and why I like Keydge so much... I don't really feel like It's a blazer at all...just another level of layering...which is more suited to my attire etc.
e.g. I wouldn't think of wearing a normal blazer type thingy with Flatleys...but Keydge...hell yeah!
So you work around what keeps ya moist, eh?

It seems I will forever regret not having bought that Kedgy when it was on sale at this Dick from Edinburgh. I thought I would not need another navy blazer thingy, but in this case I should have taken the plunge.

I'd be v surprised if Keydge didn't do em again Axe..
I have an old Brooks blazer from years back that I can honestly say has never been worn as I've faffed about what to do with it button wise & the like....I doubt it'll ever see action....I got it for £9.99 from a UK seller I DO recall ha ha...so at least I didn't break the bank..
So again where Keydge/JS score Brownie points - the stuff gets worn!
I'll still quite happily DO A CLARKSON too I'm afraid...and wear em with jeans...

I shall go sit in the corner for 5....

Metal buttons do define the blazer traditionally, as does the colour navy blue, becaus it's origin is as naval attire. In fact, I think it's named after the ship HMS Blazer - notable as the only ship in the British Royal Navy to be crewed exclusively by golf club members.

I'm just not a huge fan of bright gold embellishments period, be they buckles or buttons. A dull brass is fine, but I prefer silver and pewter.
