I love the interview where he is donning such a look, whilst sat chewing gum..scribbling those shitty drawings.. it's equally sad and farcical

Yeah. The "strong black woman" look.

Re: Miles Davis' Style (D)Evolution

Miles lost his sartorial edge when he started to let his girlfriend dress him, sadly, all else is revisionist history.

A lesson to us all.

Re: Miles Davis' Style (D)Evolution

It'd make sense also he was over there as late as 1957/58 for the soundtrack to Elevator to the Gallows.

Edit...yeah he recorded the OST in 57 the film was released Jan 58

Re: Miles Davis' Style (D)Evolution

That last photo actually looks like the cover photo from Birth of the Cool. BOTC was recorded in 1949-50 but it wasn't released until 57. One of the Van Gelder photos is the cover for the "Complete" BOTC sessions, which I don't think was released until way later. Like, after Miles died. Interestingly, in that photo it looks like he's playing a Blessing trumpet... the same kind Clifford Brown played. For most of his life (including before and after when that photo was taken) he played a Martin Committee trumpet. But that's neither here nor there in a discussion about clothing.

I'd like to see a photo of his "three-piece Brooks Brothers suit." I don't know if I've ever seen a photo of Miles in a three-piece, let alone 1946 Miles in a BB three-piece. Since he mentions Brooks Brothers by name so many times I can only assume he's wearing BB in at least some of these really early photos. I haven't been able to find any old BB models that resemble his stuff though.

Re: Miles Davis' Style (D)Evolution

They probably utilized a recent photo for the BOTC album release.
