Although I love a pink OCBD, I'm afraid a pink Shetland is a bridge too far. I've got the "coral" Shaggy Dog and even that is a little close for comfort.
I'd wear one. But I think it's a question of versatility. If you've got Shetland money to spend and you have all the sweater "basics" then by all means. Personally, I'd sooner invest in a navy Shaggy Dog or something.
But if I had a pink Shetland, I'd wear it.
Looks cool, but heathered pink is probably my limit.
I'm not a fan…but as I go more gray I am finding I look good in all sorts of different colors than when I was younger. I think pink shirts look better on me now...
I wear one. It's a fave rave. Being blonde/greying/balding it does me far me favours than darker tones or greys.
It also provokes far more gushing comments from the cute girls in the office. So what's not to like?
I think that looks great. Good under tweed, cord jackets or a poplin coat.
I think it would look good over a pink OCBD with a faded pair of Nantucket Reds.
Seriously though - I imagine plenty of chicks will think a man in a pink Shetland looks good, but a number of men will feel inspired (or threatened enough) to make remarks re. your sexuality. That's my experience with pink shirts, and for me the female approval far outweighs the irrelevant confusion from idiotic males. And a pink Shetland is far more overt than a pink shirt.
What would you pair it with?
Stuff the homophobes, pink shetlands go well with grey flannels, or those dark green Hoggs of Fyfe cords that I got on to through here.
At the moment in Tokyo the temp is about 20 18 degrees so not really needing a jacket. But grey herringbone sack goes well over it in colder times.
Pink shetland = win. Good to raw denim, to Chinos, to flannels (not only grey, but grey works best IMO), very nice under a Pea Coat over a blue OCBD... etc etc etc.
My colouring ('studio tan' grey) means I avoid pink,
but I agree with above that on the right chap and in the right combo it can look great.
The shade of it in the second image which is probably nearer to what it is like looks sweet. I would happily wear that.
Yep, happily. Grail item, might put a call through to Spirit of Shetland before the year's out.

Stanshall, apology accepted, but what is your current colouring?? Cramps withstanding etc
Begs the question which colours will you avoid wearing..to me purple looks terrible on men..it suggests sexual deviance
I don't think I have a single thread of purple in my closet. I do think I like colors that don't necessarily complement my complexion, but I just wear them anyway because I like them.
I never was a huge fan of purple, but somehow it seems to really compliment my complexion. I have a purple OCBD, a reddish-purple chunky fair isle sweater, and a houndstooth sport coat with very sparse purple accents. All Brooks, incidentally. They're all among those few items that inexplicably attract compliments (I'm sure you all have had similar experiences). So I've grown to appreciate them.
As far as the idiotic association of pink with homosexuality is concerned, I haven't actually experienced it. Perhaps it is because I am usually surrounded by younger folk, who tend to not have such an aversion to a color. However, I am occasionally judged thusly by the nature of my clothing (ya know, being "dressed up") regardless how masculine the color scheme.
The people that make fun of my pink shirts are the people I'm closest too - my friends and the lady. And none of them are the least bit homophobic. It's good-natured ribbing, but nonetheless, when I reach for the pinky I know the comments will follow. I'm not sure if a total stranger has ever commented on my pink shirt in a negative way. The girls seem to like them. My dad reminisced about them being popular when he was young.

I don't think the "goo goo muck" is quite nasty enough for you Stan.
