Re: I fucking HATE that song!!!

Re. Kool and the Gang - didn't Kool leave prior to Cherish etc? They did absolutely loads of heavy tunes before going wack, with breaks galore. NT is one killer tune from them amongst many.

I just had to leave a shop because they had The Smiths on. I can't stand them.

Re: I fucking HATE that song!!!

Could I make money just recording and selling lone break beats, or is their demand because of the fact that they were in some particularly cool and funky song?

Re: I fucking HATE that song!!!

There is a certain amount of currency in breaks found in old Funk, Jazz and R&B records but if you could cook up something interesting I'm sure there are people out there who would put your drum patterns to good use:

The Specials - A Message to you Rudy.
It was mind blowing 30 plus years ago...

Re: I fucking HATE that song!!!

Agreed. The Two Tone movement was a great statement of defiance against racism, however most of the music sounds poor to me. Particularly covers of ska or reggae classics, although I also dislike Too Much Too Young.

(Ghost Town is one exception, which is a classic and sums up the era perfectly.)

I liked The Specials and early Madness.

Re: I fucking HATE that song!!!

Yes indeedy - Pauline Black was the singer with The Selecter - these was also Rhoda Dakar who sang with The Bodysnatchers and occasionally The Specials. The ony tune I actually like by The Selecter ( and Pauline Black isn't on it ... or at least not singing ! smile )

ETA: Just read the comments for this video ....

homonymous ? eponymous?? .....  err,  first single by The Selecter with the same name of the band. lol
