been saying it all along, with a couple of other reprobates here .... agree that hoodies can be very cool and are part of the history of Ivy, long before Anthony Perkins tried one on ....
this is something you might have seen on the sideline at a sports practice at some school during the relevant years ......
I'll play along anyway. Yes. I'd go so far as to say I wear a hoodie several times a week, word up.
I've never owned or wore a hoodie but I'm sold!
The question was more along the lines of hoodie with tie; ie. replacing the cardigan as a casual alternative to the sportcoat.
I wouldn't wear the tie, but a hoodie of that style with va nice 60s/70s feel with the rest of the out fit for sure
Hell I not only would do the full outfit above, I actually want to. I'm not homosexual though, I hasten to add.

A very modern looking style for the time. I love it.
I think it looks decent and I might wear something like that with an OCBD but I would feel rather affectatious if I wore a tie with a hooded sweatshirt.
In any case, I haven't had a sweatshirt like that in years. I do have a pullover hooded sweatshirt that's got a few buttons in the front- not unlike a rugby shirt (which seems to be an unpopular item here). I wore it a couple times over an OCBD.
A student could do it for sure, but not me.
I think that looks like this really only work well when it is natural and tie less. Say you are at a barbecue in the summer at a friends. It gets cold. You have a sweatshirt in your car. Boom. Looks cool. If I dressed like this to go out for an evening I think it looks to contrived. However, I dress a lot like this when I am sitting on my porch.

not ever going to wear a hoodie with a tie personally but
if you really are a natural shoulder freak then the sweatshirt is your big pal along with sweaters, Pendletons, overshirts, mackinaws, cruisers ....
love the good old-fashioned hoodie, either zippered front with side pouch pockets, or pullover with kangaroo pouch, with proper drawstring and grommets
overall excellent design too, comfortable, not expensive, not itchy, forgiving, easily washable ....
for me sweatshirts rule, because even though I love the smell of wool, I sometimes can't deal with it on my skin, and that's where the cotton hoodie steps in ..... I love cotton layers and the sweat excels as a useful cotton layer ......
for me the tie is to be worn with sport coat and with suits, I don't wear them casually ....
p.s. I like rugby shirts too ... they're Ivy too, just like the sweatshirt, even though they're automatically thought to be more preppy than Ivy ... rugby is very Ivy too, at least in the literal sense, i.e., the sport was played in the boom years at those schools and the rugby shirt is another example of athletic clothing that was adopted for off-field wear although unlike the polo shirt it didn't really become widely popular until the early-to-mid-'70s
notwithstanding the cover of that Jan & Dean live LP from 1965 ......

Mmm...not sure about this. My self imposed guideline is that a pair of dress trousers and shirt deserve a knitted sweater or jacket, particularly if a tie is involved. The sweatshirt is really a sportswear item that has morphed over from the gym/track to casual wear. Perhaps the outfit would sit better with me if you had deployed 5 pocket cords which are a halfway between dress trousers and denim jeans (in my eyes). Maybe I need to think outside the box a bit more? As always, if it floats your boat........ As always, you look good Oli.
I wear a hoodie and OCBD all the time but Im not sure I'd ever be in the context of needing those and a tie...I dont attended class after basketball practice anymore..
I wore a blue zip hoodie yesterday after work, with a black and green tartan flannel and busted up Wranglers and desert boots. I looked amazing.
It looks good but no way could I pull it off. I do wear sweatshirts over OCBDs with jeans or chinos finished off with canvas trainers or desert boots. It's what I tend to go for when I'm going out to spew my moves on the dance floor. I feel smart in an OCBD but protected by a cheap sweatshirt.
Is anyone more eager to post photos of themselves than Oliver? You're not even wearing a hoodie?
Oh leave it out... you should be happy with your win this weekend, leave poor ole Oli alone, it's a clothes forum after all
