Also worth pointing out that you'll have to have the patch pockets raised as the jacket is definitely too long and will look awkward when cut if the pockets fall too close to the hem. Make sure your tailor copies the swelled edge stitching when moving them up. I would also make sure that you use a tailor that you really trust for a job like this and definitely not someone who's only an alterationist; better if they deal in bespoke/MTM suiting so that they're familiar with proper jacket construction and know how to cut and reassemble this jacket.
DRyes - I have been down this path many time myself. My success rate is about 10%. If I total up all of my failures I could have easily went MTM and had 1 perfect jacket instead of many that I had to part with or give up on. My advice is not to invest in the jacket.
Post your measurements when you have the chance. I may have something for you in my closet.

I think Patrick is living in the Truman Show and cameras just follow him around wherever he goes.
*Puts on Colombo voice* Just one more question...
How can a sack suit be cut parallel from under arm straight down? Without a dart it must taper for the chest and waist size to be different?
I think you've got that wrong mate, I don't know of any jacket that doesnt do that..Im not saying your not giving good advice but I dont know of any jacket that has a pit to pit the same as the waist
I'll grab a sportcoat and measuring tape and post some photos for you later this afternoon.
^ Also just decided that this will be my evening attire (taking the in-laws down to Fort Mason waterfront for dinner) with a blue Mercer oxford, olive moleskins and solid brown knit tie. Now I'm going to get OCD and spend the next 30 minutes trying to rip our this bullshit fake eBay seller label... what a stupid waste of time and expense, who the hell does this?!?
How can the seam come in over the pocket? Isnt that the underarm dart?
And with the one above youve only got half the pocket showing where you run the tape off for the waist?..also you need to get up under those arms to get a proper pit to pit on all the seams joining which I think would actually give you a wider measurment...I think youre pulling my plonker with these Oli!
