Well, if you're fine with just going with Formby Prime then we'll roll thusly.
Can't say I've ever seen anyone look particularly Ivy around town generally..
There were some supoibly dressed fellas at the JS chinwag mind..but even when folk have come in the JS store when I've been there, they look either modlike, just curious, or a bit of an eccentric.....?
I do always seem to bump into the Woofmeister there at least, so always a delight...
Chris & Lloyd of course, always look immaculate when I see ‘em!
I see a fair few Poncelikes mind around... taking bits of this n that which is obviously where I’m at… and well dressed peeps in more obvious Mod/Rockabilly/B-Boy styles…
As I’ve always said, it’s all about any kinda STYLISH look that does it for me… but I do like the more non obvious aspects in one’s attire…so happily maintain my interest in new stuff and why I so love a bit of Vetra/keydge just to shake it all up a bit…
We're probably all up our own arse in the Capital eh? .... and get bored too easy etc. – I don’t really want to fall into any category tbh & why I get fed up with stuff for long periods of time… but thankfully, I’m a hoarder.. & an old git.. & so have amassed muchos shit to fall back on…
I don't drive...so rarely go anywhere too far out of town... and I'll be totally honest.. I don't really give a shit for the rest of the country anyhoo...
I’m sure every major city has pockets of sartorial loveliness of course and there’ll be second hand forever…. But it’s so much easier now for anyone what with ebay , etsy and the like… and obviously, to home in on your particular style!
So at the end of the day…all that really counts is your getting access to what you want innit….
OH - The lack of TORPOR !
Most clothes come from shops and are sold entirely for profit by them. They are the product of designers and marketing men.
Nothing controversial here.
The culture of retail is to be celebrated. It even has its own kind of romance too...
But having mentioned romance, I have to own up to being a realist.
'Ivy' clothes were never Campus exclusive. Ever.
One day the penny (loafer) will drop: Ivy is messy and contradictory. The simple tale told to simple folk about it, backed up by its MARKETING name (Ivy) is all to do with the selling of clothes to the (non-Ivy) masses.
The 'Ivy' world before the 'Ivy' boom is even more contradictory - Did you know that the style was massively dropped by the seriously aspirational when it hit the mass market ? It was left for the financial dregs of the market at that point... Along with those very few blue bloods who had always dressed that way and did so more through torpor than choice.
It's not an easy story.
And the name given to it by clothiers selling 'Ivy' clothes will lead you astray.
You need big eyes to see Ivy. Eyes that see beyond students, Mods & Trads.
Ivy is a lovely mongrel.
And, if you love it, you have to love it for what it is - The wardrobe of both JFK and Lee Harvey O.

'Preppy' was worse ...
Oh the cynicism of those clothiers ...

A Tullamore Dew Benilyn Bomber anyone?
Yours is on its way AC... and on the house Sir...
Meanwhile I asked 25 random people lunchtime on their thoughts on London Ivy:
Of the 2 who actually answered, one said "it really is all rather splendid isn't it...."... but then they kept repeating this for about 15 times before I made my excuses and left...
Tbh - I'm not entirely convinced they were actually answering my poser?!?!?....
...and the other recommended Roundup ProBio 360
Still - I've put it out there kids...I've put it the fuck out there...
We is a Minority Blud!
Personally, I just like the gear. Where it came from and how it originated is of passing interest.............. up to a point, then you're just wasting gas.
I suspect most people on here feel the same
Woofboxer HAS SPOKEN.....
We can all go home early...
TDB Bomber fella?!? To celebrate?!?!?
This debate between Jim and Rob has been going on now for over a decade and a half and in all honesty I still haven't sussed who thinks what or even what it's over. And I'm someone who's fascinated by the history and culture behind the style.
Lee Harvey Oswald was not Ivy. If you can't see that then you don't know Ivy.
As Jason Jules might put it: "The Ivy of Oswald, and the Oswald of Ivy." Innit!
Anyone catch the Cunard Yank articles today, as part of the 175 year Cunard celebrations?
