But, as you know, 'Ivy' did not exist then. It was yet to be codified and marketed.
I'm happy to share family snaps with you. Less keen to present them to sneering forumites.
I do have that great pic of The Boston Strangler in BD though... And, naturally, Lee Harvey Oswald in similar.
Just clothes.
Schmutter.
Unselfconciously worn. Worn without meaning or intent. Just a cheap easily available shirt.
Not wearing a BD must have been tough once ...
Ive posted countless times the images of 1920s tennis clothing...when and what do you think the plim, the bucks, the duck pants etc.. were made for..you obviously didn't pay much attention the first hundred times we all went round these conversations when I posted the images
..and it wasnt just a NYC thing it was equally a Chicago thing with the Aztec Tennis club and the Hub etc...again nothing youve ever bothered to learn about because you were always trying to shape the ideas to fit you....I dont even like tennis that much...but I recognise the history.

/\ even the Boston Strangler and Lee Harvey Oswald were students once, they picked it up on campus too ..... heh heh!
maybe it was just Accidental Ivy, or maybe their intent was to look respectable, more respectable than Oswald's preferred white t-shirts (were they Hanes Beefy?) anyway
Oswald may have been given his Ivy ocbd by the CIA or the KGB, he was wearing it in Minsk, where Ivy marketing efforts historically did not produce noticeable results .....
(two guys who really looked bad in white t-shirts were Oswald and KSM)
.... or maybe the buttons and collar roll were doctored, you know how it was claimed that photos of Oswald were doctored, that the shadows in the yard weren't lining up correctly?
Heck man, based on what I'm wearing right now I may as well be in that shot of the tennis players. Crazy...
I think we can test the veracity of this rabbit that Jim has pulled out of his Stetson Hatteras quite simply.. I suggest he sends the evidence of his supposed Jewish family in NYC and it's connections with the Nightingale College to Stanshall, an esteemed member of the legal profession, for verification.
If it comes up good then fair do's I shall apologise on this forum for calling his word into question. However I must warn Jim that if it is found that he has been lying to forum members again then the moderators will take a dim view of it and will take his antecedents fully into account when determining the most appropriate way to deal with him.
what are they then ?

nah, I believe Jim, it's too random to make up, one of his great-aunts married a Jewish guy, not really such a big schmear, that kind of thing happened a lot in NYC .....
I do love judging cases though, I learned from the best judge there ever was, spent years at the great man's side .....
in fact I was thinking of a set of stipulated Ivy facts that would reconcile the positions of these great contributors to Talk Ivy .....
but then I had to go to lunch and I ran out of time ....... discovered that the cheeseburgers at my second-favorite hot dog stand are really good and reminiscent of the delectable greasebombs served at a now-defunct but locally legendary campus tavern I used to frequent of a Saturday afternoon ..... I posted a pic of this place either in Bop's hamburger thread or WM's coffeeshops and diners thread, two of my fave threads .....
this great 1921 photo of the tennis players in their proto-Ivy has really made my day ..... the buttondown shirts were beautiful, the whole look was beautiful, it's making me want to play some tennis ......
Jim has fuck all to do with being Jewish till he met a couple of gay Jewish guys in London many moons ago and oh so much wanted to be like them.. and dress all Ivy..apparently they fucked off abroad and thought he was a little twat..a story Ive heard from more than one source..
That guy should post on the what are you wearing thread.
