The fastest you have ever driven a car?

When l was young I did 240 km per hour (150 miles per hour) down a road when no-one was around. I drove down the road for about 5 mile to check for cops and then flew like the wind all the way back. lol The freeway was only half built so no cars anywhere at the time.

130 MPH, back in the day. I regularly use to do a ton and ten on motorways, that was a cruising speed for a lot of drivers. You can't do that speed anymore and expect to keep your license, certainly in the UK, but you wouldn't want to with the congestion.

Here in the Netherlands, you can do 130 KPH on some of the motorways, but you won't get much opportunity to push-it above this.

I don't think there's much joy left in driving these days, the romance of the road seems dead to me.

Probably just under the 100 MPH mark and only on a couple of occasions. Anything over about 85 feels uncomfortable, the steering goes light and you get the feeling that it could go wrong but I suppose it's down to the car you're driving.

I prefer bendy roads. I've a little 1.2 Fiesta which handles really well in the corners which makes A and B road driving fairly fun.

We're all travelling at 1000mph...which is pretty impressive... I hope we never come to an abrupt stop

Re: The fastest you have ever driven a car?

I remember testing a Honda Fireblade once, I'm sure it was on the autobahn, or maybe a closed airfield roll. But it had a digital speedo which was a fairly new things for bikes then, I gave it some right hand and went up through the box, after a few seconds I felt as though the bike was shifting a bit so I glanced down and was surprised to see 172 at which point I backed off in a hurry! It was quite shocking really as the bike felt rock steady and sorted at that speed, there was no feeling that it was under any strain and was still accellerating steadily. It did feel like that bit in Star Trek when they go into warp drive, I think I actually moved into the future and gained two or three seconds  wink

I've still got quite a fast bike in the garage but I rarely exceed 60 - 70 mph now - for exactly the reasons cited by Hepcat.

No speed limits on my way to work, at least for most of the way.

But seriously, how fast would you want to drive a diesel Astra Estate?
