Baracuta themselves are uncertain. Cheap knock-offs appeared overnight when the jacket became "The Harrington" (many from Walthemstow...) and so they reacted to their competition rapidly with new shades.
- If you are talking original Baracuta G9 from Manchester you are talking 1936. Same year as the birth of the Bass Weejun in Wilton, Maine..
It's really not a '50s / '60s thing.
I think the Baracuta of even just a few years back are great jackets, I sold mine after losing quite a bit of weight and have half regretted it ever since? The older ones even better. They also go for a high price at vintage though.
I thought navy and British tan were the original colors but I'm not as sure anymore.
Great jacket though.
Wow…You mean things made 80 years are ago are not the same as today's iterations…? How weird…?
Original, refers to its claim as the first of its kind, "often copied, never bettered". Classic, refers to the fuller cut jacket, as they also offer a slim-fit version.
The G9 is a classic. An iconic jacket.
You have no idea what you're talking about as per usual. And have nothing constructive to offer. Just a sh*t stirrer.
No idea. I have an older, all cotton outer one...that is the dogs boll*x.
Direct your question elsewhere.
All right keep your hair on, you touchy git!
I take your point, but I'm not worried about the associations myself - it's what the owners of the brand have done to it now that bothers me. I've got several of the old ones and am quite happy to wear them, but some of the abominations they produce now, and the shape of the cut, are appalling.

biggup to our seriously remiss pal Senorservo2.0 for advising me to pick up one of the nice all-cotton baggy made-in-England models before the crash!
first one was from Andover, navy blue, fall '82, current one is pale khaki, it's my heavy winter coat here on Gilligan's Isle!
I bought my Cuta G9 probably 5 - 6 years back now, so not sure where that puts it on the quality / fit scale, but I love it.
If anyone wants to sell there older size 40 to me I'd be interested?
When 2 Russell St. first opened in 1981 the Baracuta G9s were on offer at £25. Just the classic fit, but there were some G9s that were a bit shorter in the body, JS told us that these were a cancelled Japanese order.
I already own a burgundy one from Ben Nevis Clothing, so it may be classified as a knockoff compared to the brandname. Regardless, I plan on snatching one or two more.
Having said that, I feel like I'm spitting in the face of consensus by saying I'm not a fan of the sizing (body & sleeves), but this is mainly due to the fact that I'm a smaller, thinner guy and bagginess doesn't agree with me.
