I must admit, I get a little peeved when I see this thread bumped. At least this time it wasn't RIGHT BEFORE LUNCH when I'm absolutely famished and a deluge of drool shorts my keyboard.
Leave It To Peever, starring Hugh Beaumont, Barbara Billingsley, Tony Dow, and Stanshall, as the Peeve.
I'm waiting for my wife to bring me home some shawerma and I'm damn hungry!
That so sounds like a euphemism Oliver.
Haha it so is from this day forward!
/\ have you had one of those yet Ollie? that's an Iowan and regional sub-specialty I've been reading about for years but I haven't been to Iowa ... but I would like to try it ... I do like a picadillo sandwich, that's what we get down here ....
I have, Stan, ages ago! There actually used to be a mid century burger chain in Montreal that made similar sandwiches from ground loose chuck.
Btw, have you heard the sad news about Formosa? It was gutted earlier this week and completely destroyed.

I've obviously never been but it now looks horrendous from that photo you provided, it really does seem a shame.
Maroons indeed
Last night I made a good one: lightly toasted Jamaican harddough bread, English cheddar, lime pickle, mango chutney
pretty Rajjed-out sandwich I had been craving, I've been eating them for years, this one aligned just right
sure you could put some avocado and a bit of cilantro on it if you like
^ Oli that's not fair, drooling at the thought.
As Stans bacon variations have got me going as well, will have to satisfy myself with a bacon bap
( in a greasy UK style, cut side of the bap heated in the rendered bacon fat left in the pan and HP sauce liberally applied),

Man, so jealous of Oli's sandwich score.
At home for lunch today. White batch loaf; mayo; English mustard; Worcester sauce; Cheddar; Torchon ham; butter. Cheese grilled on one slice, sandwich then assembled, outsides buttered and fried. A kind of croque monsieur, I guess. Not so much Ivy as Continental with an Anglo Irish spin. And effing delicious, in an artery-hardening way...
