On the Penfield website there are some nice discounts... I went for swimming shorts (which are NICE quality) and THIS:

Quite nice. Cheaper and IMO preferable over every ELKA (I mean basically the overpriced Norse projects crap)... Probably too fashionable for some but I like it!

Hahaha... But what if there wasn't the small logo on the arm? Still too 'updated'?
Probably the pockets. I prefer the old Woolrich and (forgot the name), although the above may be more waterproof. Also I prefer them with a lining. (In fact I had a similar one to the above by Woolrich from back in the day that I ended up getting rid of - Chief Brody is now giving it a good home.)
I don't hate the Penfield by any means btw. Just a tad too modern for me.
Anyway wear it in good health.
I thought for a second that your title read "antizyklonisches Einkaufen"... not a bad jacket!
Not sure what you mean, Absintheist?
@Yuca: well, I think I hunted fo an ideal old 60/40 Woolrich for quite a while - but I never found one in a colour that I liked (I already own a bright and lucid Lyle&Scott unlined waxed cotton parka that you would really HATE )...
I think the Penfield Kasson is the equivalent with lining and the classic Mountin Parka styling, but I was more for an unlined lighter version as I use my Barbours for that occasion. So I am happy as I liked the colours and I really like those pockets!
The meteorological term Antizyklon somehow rang a bell in conjunction with your article (and buying rain wear in summer), at least in my sleepy mind. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hochdruckgebiet
The Kasson is the lined 60/40 parka.
The Vasson is the unlined version, in a 65/35 fabric.
There is a Kasson II in their archives made in small batch 'Hudson Wax Cloth',
it's usually made as a limited edition tie-in with another brand or store (mine is an olive 60/40 with contrasting Harris tweed pockets- made for a Japanese department store, found in tk max Ealing for £40)
That Gibson looks alright, but the white buttons are a bit of a turn off.
If it was all in navy with non-contrast buttons i think id like it
If I ever going to dislike the buttons... Well, easy change.
As far as I understand, this is also the Hudson wax cloth? Seems pretty durable...
It's Penfields own invention and has very good water repellent qualities ...

I've got a Danville that has been heavily worn over the last 4 winters and I'm impressed how well it's lasted. Because the Kasson is thinner than the Danville and as a result, better for layering so I'd consider it when the time comes to replace the Danville.
Glad to hear it. It didn't look masculine on me which is why I had to get rid (although in retrospect perhaps I shouldn't have worn it over a dress).
I have a Penfield 60/40 body warmer that I love. Got it Urban Outfitters...always worth a recce every now and then.

^ very much so during sale time,
also worth a regular look on the website for some major reductions but stock moves fast (70% off Penfield and Dickies earlier this month and currently Weejuns for £80).
