Re: The Jeremy Corbyn sartorial thread

And for those of you watching in black and white, this one is in Bay City Roller video color:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdOCWUgwiWs

The Strawbs - Part of The Union

A mere 8 years later, the music in Sheffield had greatly improved with seminal albums by The Human League and Heaven 17.

I can remember the late 70s fairly well, the early 70s not so much, but even in the 80's Britain had the reputation as being the sickman of Europe and whilst the rest of the continent and especially Germany was enjoying a boom, the UK was mired in endless recession, at least in the unproductive old industries. Italy too had a torrid time in the 70s and early 80s. The thing with the UK, the world had changed, the white heat of technology had not been capitalized upon and we were left behind. The new industries and new opportunities were coming in, but from my perspective, our culture was still thinking in the old post-WWII thinking of: apprenticeship - job for life in the local factory or refinery - waiting in dead man's shoes for a chance to become a foreman. People were still locked into this way of thinking, so couldn't recognize the freedom, at a price, that the demise of the corporate man has given us.

Corbyn, however well intentioned, is a reactionary force that would attempt and fail to bring back this way of being with the most vile and ugly elements of the modern failed socialist states thrown in for good measure.

The Victorians considered nostalga a form of neurosis and mental illness - in this case they are dead right. Quite literally for the future of a vibrant and successful Labour party and opposition.
