^ no worries woof, glad to see someone else scored a bargain there.
Nice one...thats the colour Im after...any idea what that colour is called?
Seller listed them as "military green". Not sure where he got that from.
Here is his full description:
"Vintage Made In Italy, Levi's 551 White Tab, GABARDINE JEANS, REGULAR FIT, MILITARY GREEN, HIGH RISE"
Interesting. As long as they through to the knee okay I will be happy. These will need hemming anyway so a taper will be no biggy. Thanks.
This is a good of green for all year round but I particularly fancied it in the lighter-weight-gabardine for summer wear.
I may well be wrong, but I believe the 4-digit code refers to the date of manufacture - hence January 1998.
They are quite a different shapes, Sancho, so quite surprised you have got those two down to your either/or
Going on those measurements, anyway. The 1955 is just bigger/wider everywhere. But...
1955 501
32w has an 18' hem width
1954 501
32w has a 15" hem width
That looks like a huge difference to me, so all depends on what you like at your ankles...
I went for the 1947. Definitely a fuller cut, but since they've worn in and taken shape (after shrinking a lot), I'm pleased I didn't go slimmer.
I'm a bit of a lanky bastard, but post-shrinkage of the jeans, the rise even on the 1947 isn't as high as I'd ideally like.
That said, the 1947 seems like pretty close to the perfect jeans to me.
The current LVC 501/1947 'Beaches' finish will give you an idea of how they shrink up ( the 32"w x 32"l in this finish is a pre-shrunk 34"w x 34"l, if that makes sense)

If you're on a budget, these regular 'shrink to fits' are pretty decent ( closest comparative is the LVC 501/1966 with a slightly wider hem ) limited sizes but a cracking £52 which qualifies for free shipping and returns ( sign up and the 10% intro bonus might work at checkout too)

The '47s has 19" around the thighs, while the '67 505s has 19.5. The only reason narrowed my choices down to either the '54 or '55 was that they both are bigger around the thighs. It's too bad that there isn't any shop that sells LVC near me. But to cut it short, I should go with the '47s?
According to Union Made: "This reproduction of the 505 is made with a sanforized Cone Mills selvedge denim and has a lower rise than the 501 of the same era." Sounds like the perfect denim to me. So which 501 are they talking about?
Sancho fella.. JS has/had basic MADE IN USA 501s...
Not much shrinkage, if any me think..
