Yes, Tom - like that, that would be a 3/2.5 roll:

I much prefer the second style - I've always referred to that as a "tipped roll". As you say I think it's more elegant.
I'm not averse to the former though - but not with the proportions in the first pic, which I think are horrible.
Agree, much smarter - more what I look for in a jacket / suit.
I've grown to appreciate the 3/2.5 cut as well, though not to the point of abandoning the 3/2. I like it because it's a little more functional. It's not that I often button the top button (excepting cold weather) but rather I don't like the vestige of having a button that doesn't even work. I also like it because a 3 button silhouette is flattering for my height, and I kind of want people to notice the third button! I feel like the layman doesn't notice the difference between a 3/2 and a regular 2.
I don't like vests. I mean, occasionally I'll see one that looks classy (typically a tweedy number, maybe with lapels) but even those I don't think I could pull off (nor would I want to). I don't mind three-piece suits but I don't like odd vests and it looks too early-2000s hipster to wear a vest without a jacket.
I do own a gray three-piece suit that was a gift for college but it's less Ivy and more Mad Men- slim, tapered, and a decently classic-looking cut but it's double vented and 2 button. I've worn it maybe once...
Sperry CVO's
Controversial?
The pointy toes, Woof. Ivy league's winklepickers. Plus the knock-offs look like the shoes retirement home players wear...with slacks. Bad juju.
For me the acid test is whether sneakers are comfortable. I seem to be in between sizes in CVOs, UK 9s pinch like hell but 10s slop around on me plates. Converse Purcells and Keds seem to suit me best. I don't think the Keds I have got are Champions, they have a tab on the back with an eyelet in it. Keds don't seem to make them anymore, I wish they did as they are so comfortable and I would buy two or three pairs, even if they make me look like a cheerleader. What I do at weekends is my business.
/\ definitely Woof, comfort is king, if the sneakers don't fit well why bother with them? I have a hard time with some brands that are too narrow despite liking some of their offerings.
Sperry CVOs aren't the only fish in the sea ......
ForeignHand, my love for Converse, Incontinence pants, and Puma stemmed from desperately trying to get away from the little kids' Keds we had to wear for years when we were young, because there were only like two brands of kids' sneakers, Keds and PF Flyers, as well as Sears, which were basically the same sneakers and were probably made in the same factories .....
it was a relief when Pro-Keds came around but soon we were way into the Incontinence pants, and in fact the European sneakers are hallmarks of '70s Prep and are key in distinguishing real Ivy from its sloppier younger brother .......

Fresh pair of green suede Pumas are on their way to my doorstep. Probably my second favorite old school sneak after Incontinence pants Campus/Gazelle/et al.
When it's really hot, or if I'm poolside, etc., I prefer my Sperry CVOs or my white canvas Supergas.
This is one of those groovy hate threads that I can't fully let loose in mainly because everything I could start to discuss is something somebody wears here and really likes .......
for instance, I'm not a real fan of _____ ______ ________, or _______ ________, but I can't bring myself to ___ __ _________ ______ .....
therefore I say that if it's legit Ivy, I like it, even if there's no way I would personally wear this or that item, including the ____ ___ some of you wear the hell out of .....
Jesus those things are corny!
...erm, cowboy boots?
No?
Shoes with tassels.
I don't hate them but I dislike them.

^Me too
Real men don't wear tassel shoes!
Ha ha! Personally, since reading stan's post, I've purged my closet of all my __________ ____________ ___________ and __________ ________ . It was all a bunch of drek (dreck?) anyway.
