Re: Vinyl Spins

For anyone among us serious about the vinyl spin, I have a question to axe: How important to you are issues? In other words, are you okay with acquiring a later or even brand new reissue, e.g., on Sundazed, 4 Men with Beards, Rhino? Or do you have to have that first or early pressing?

Just curious. I go back and forth. Some new reissues are not too bad. Some are horrible. There's inconsistency even within the same reissue label.

Re: Vinyl Spins

I've been playing a lot of Miles lately. One day a few years ago, I walked into my then-local Asheville record haunt and discover half a dozen first pressing Miles LPs in mono! These included the live ones, FOUR and MY FUNNIY VALENTINE, plus MILESTONES and ESP. The covers were in excellent in shape, and the vinyl on all was about a VG+, although FOUR does have a coupla dug in skips. They were a little pricey, around 20-25 bucks each, I think, but I couldn't believe my luck. And I had to wonder who would give up such treasure?

Re: Vinyl Spins

I have that 4Men VU lp, too, as well as an early pressing, and I can't tell much difference. The 4Men is slightly louder to my ears but it's not offensive.

I do have trouble with reissues that are not careful to replicate the original cover art. Some look like bad scans. Thin glossy cardboard is also kind of a deal breaker for me.

Re: Vinyl Spins

wallowing in a motherlode of '70s funk and soul tonight, friend just scored a giant collection for free by being in the right place at the right time ...

just a big cauldron of filĂ© gumbo ya ya, ya dig?  been eating so much okra this summer it was bound to have an effect on things .....

spinning the mint Willie Hutch LPs and so much excellent Motown, Philadelphia Int'l, Stax, Alston, Curtom, Tamla, De-Lite, Hi, Roxbury, Avco, Atco, Casablanca, 20th Century, Atlantic, T-Neck, WB, UA, Epic, Polydor, T.K., Mercury, so many more, LPs and 7", it was madness I tell you .......

sorted some of them out and kept a few monsters myself for my efforts ... you could dig for years and not come across a concentrated cache like this in person .... too much killer

never been a thief but this batch of wax had me hopping around like Daffy Duck with crazy schemes ......

yes it's true I already had much of it but I can't front, I didn't have 'em all goddamnit

no, be gracious ... but it's so hard ... when I saw that crate I had a hard time not going full super ape AND return of the super ape ......
