Hi, I had been eyeing up the Barker Lomond when the almost identical shoe from Bass was shown:

Looks very nice. Anyone seen them or got them?
Thanks
Look very nice , wonder what the quality is like on them?

That's my slight concern, that Bass shoes can look a bit plasticy. The grain leather looks almost like Zug leather here, no bad thing but useful to know a bit more before diving in. Glad to see the goodyear welted danite sole. The Barker Nairns I got last year that the Lomond is an evolution of have been great.
I picked up some Northampton made Zug leather derby shoes last year in brown with a german label inside from ebay really inexpensively - seemed to have never been worn and were still in box. They are great for bad weather, it seems Zug leather will take anything.

I love the vertical view, the toe shape is great.
They look great but the leather is a bit 'cardboard stiff' and the 'brush off' finish is like the current weejuns.
Not bad but not great quality wise compared with similarly priced Loakes.
Concur. They 'look' fantastic, but at that price point and the vibe one gets from the current Bass 'brand' I'd be pleasantly surprised if they still looked fantastic after one winter. I'd go for those Barker Lomonds unless anyone here can recommend anything else in a similar style.
Didn't I see them in JS the other day?
If they're the ones I'm thinking of, they look a good shape but I share the concerns about the leather quality.
I just bought these Cheaney split toes. Pricey but very well made. The leather is gorgeous:

Those cordovan Paraboots look far too much like Cherry Red DM's beloved of SWP types for me.
/\
Interesting. I don't get DM vibes from them at all.

^MCM I think that's their discontinued colour 'cordovan' and not shell cordo leather,
I've got the Reims loafer from the early 2000s in what looks like the same colour/finish and it's calf leather with the colour listed as cordovan on the box.
I like those Bass best out of those on this thread.
Stylistically and shape wise they seem 'right' to me.
The Crockett & Jones split-toe derby shoe is relevant too:

I will probably end up getting the Barker Lomond as the Nairns I am wearing from last year are great:

In reality I don't need any shoes for the rest of my life, but there's something about pebble grain apron derby shoes with a Danite sole that call to me. Daft I know.
I am not sure who makes the shoes for Charles Tyrwhitt (they look like Loake) and they have a split toe in either black or brown:

Yes, I was going to mention the C&J. Beautiful shoe.
Talking of split toes, John Rushton has a very nice looking Cheaney split toe loafer in his sale section at the moment. He said it was a sample for the Japanese market and hasn't been in production. Bit of an oddity, but I think it works really well. If anyone's an 8 and in the neighbourhood I advise them to take a look.
A long split toe seam and recessed apron doesn't appeal to me. While a split toe feels like a little superficial addition, it seems wrong to me when the seam is too long, as with the Paraboot one too. On the Michel PBs I have the split toe seam is almost invisible.
So it seems I like my shoe aprons big and my split toe seams short.
