Bucks and desert boots aside, I was wondering if there were any other suede items in the Ivy wardrobe. I thought of this when I came across a pair of suede Alden Longwings in a kind of mid-light brown, and I was wondering what I could wear them with.
You're in odd territory,
is suede too 'casual' a material for a longwing ?
Probably look good with cords and tweed, but you may edge into English Countryside vibe if you're not too careful.
Add a Barbour and you'll get asked for donations by your local hunt
Suede longwings are a little J Crewish but it can be done if approached with steely resolve.
I've got a pair of Allen Edmonds longwings in mid brown suede. They're not in the vanguard of my shoe collection, I probably wouldn't have bothered with them but I saw them on ebay, deadstock, at a price that couldn't be ignored. They don't get a lot of wear this time of year, but they get wheeled out sometimes in the summer. They work quite well with smart but informal outfits, lightweight summer suits or chinos and a blazer - that type of thing.
I'd wear them, but they need not to be clean.
Dirty and worn into the ground a la dirty bucks.
Only to be worn with denim, I would have thought - but then you are getting close to dress down Friday territory...
QUestion: What if suede turns out "NOT to be Ivey?
I considered a tan suede 3/2 sack recently but ultimately opted out due to its suedyness.
Hm. Thanks for your contributions, lads. Frankly I have no idea why I came up with that question. Looking at Oli's jacket reminds me of that McGregor jacket ad. I do think that suede is too casual a material on Longwings, in comparison to bucks and DBs.
Speaking of McGregor suede jackets...

Playboys, I suppose..
Also, those bomber jacket things. Although suede jackets are a younger man's thing in my book...(I'm selling a beautiful, like new, Langrock 1960s shearling if anyone is interested!)
Wallabees?
A more formal shoe or a loafer in suede is a no no pour moi, I'm afraid. Mind you,I was only thinking today, 'I must stop buying suede shoes'. I love how it looks, but something about the poor texture contrast between suede and trouser material means I put them on and go, nah.....
Good stuff, Oli. I remember what jacket it was now, that's a Suedelander, isn't it?
Yes indeed, Vintage, though I personally just don't like the fuzzy look of suede over the sleeker calf on a pair of brogues. I very much like bucks, however. Goin' to have myself a pair soon.
Suede is the works of the devil. Give me ONE good reason to want it.
Perhaps the better question is, "Is Ivy suede?"
Are chocalate biccies Ivy?
Bet you fookers still eat them though.
Ooooo, can't wear that, its not Ivy. Get a grip, your not 15 year old mods.
Anyway, suede shoes work great with flannel trousers, nap on nap you see.
Nevertheless, the question remains unanswered.
Yeah, most likely to remain one of the great mysteries of our time.
The question on everyone's filters of course, is DO Urban Ponces wear suede...?!?
HELL YEAH!
Couldn't tell yers if it's Ivy tbh... as am way too busy working on firing beryllium nuclei at a small carbon target and analysing the debris that shoots into surrounding particle detectors innit..
Boom Bipples..
