^ Yes, I got sick of "Amplifier" in fairly short order.

I used to have a Chris Stamey EP that had the most ramshackle tune on it, something about it wasn't God who made honky-tonk music, and I can't find it anywhere in this digital age.

I went to see Wilco by myself several years back and it was distinctly uncomfortable to be the oldest guy in the room, by a decade at least. Like hanging around the elementary school playground.

aw shit, I knew you were gonna say you felt too old ... hey man it can't be helped and anyway remember that God gave rock and roll to you and he put it in the soul of everyone.

Another band that's not necessarily weird or way out, though they try, is Stereolab. I like the more guitar-based, droning songs more than the sort of groovy ersatz jazz background music. Great for driving.

I got the first couple of Stereolab records back when they were first released, they were good ... Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements and Mars Audiac Quintet

... cannot believe it's been 23 years since then .....  Whoa-oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

A bit of Stereolab appearing on a UK 'youth' TV show 'The Word' in the late 80s.
I was there working, behind the chroma-key banner on stage right relaying the requests of the band to the monitor engineer via a walkie talkie, the studio was so small all the sound desks were operated from a truck outside making it a nightmare to work on .

I heartily recommend Tim from the 'Labs new band Cavern of Anti-Matter

and Laetitia Sadiers solo work is very impressive, her current live band is a bit special

Re: 'Weird Sounds From The Way Out' Thread

Not necessarily 'way out' way out - but I always find this track mildly unsettling for some unknown reason .... hmm
I'm fairly sure that it's a cover and seems fairly incongruous on the album
