Dye Ivy dye!
Has anyone tried dyeing shirts to achieve some of those rare Brooks Makers colours. Perhaps the iconic Miles Davis album cover green?
I have a couple of white Makers that I would prepare to sacrifice in the interest of the advancement of ivy science. Anyone got any dyeing tips (apart from the Womens Institute of course)?

There is a new range of dyes available that go in the washer and do not require additional salt. I have had great results with this recently for chinos fading, just dye them, wash again in water and they are good as new.
So far I have tried navy and stone brown. I have also dyed an old jacket too that was beyond use.
So far, I have not noticed a new Miles Davis Green dye on the shelves. However I believe it is worth a go if you find the right shade with an old shirt to use.
Last summer I found two logoless RL Polo Miles Davis copy shirts in TK Maxx in right shade with all the right details that scratch that itch for me.

I have tried dying several times with mixed results.With t shirts it went really well but with shirts I found the process did something odd to the buttons and made the shirt look quite strange.

Though the goal seems noble, keep in mind that oxford cloth is a combination of white and colored yarns. If you dye the shirt, all the yarns will be the same color, negating the effect of the oxford cloth.
There are other problems, some of which Sunra pointed out. The buttons may take on some of the dye. So...remove the buttons before starting the process. The thread used to sew the shirt may have some polyester, which doesn't take dye too well, leaving a strange color or cast afterwards.
It may be better to hope that one of the sources for OCBD's sees the light and offers a green shirt.

I received a catalogue through the post today unprompted from http://www.spoke-london.com who do Chinos in a range of fits and in the Oliver colour above. May be worth a look dependent on experiences here.

Big fan of that light olive color, recently saw what looked like some 1st pattern Vietnam-era US Army trousers on the beach in an otherwise very Surf Ivy pic, wish I'd bookmarked it or something... Can be a really cool color to mix things up with.

That dye has rescued a jacket I bought cheap sight unseen that turned out to be vile Michael Portillo-Yellow not the stone promised. I dyed it with the Khaki dye and it turned out the dark stone I wanted

Interesting the focus on Olive colour - Lacoste and Lands End in that colour are my go to.polos this year. It is versatile in going with many other colours.

Interesting. I've got a cord jacket which is a yellow-light brown ish colour, but too loud in tone for me (where's Bop and his colour wheel when I need him!). Still can't work other whether it's best to go for the gently sun-faded approach, or go for the more risky dye a slightly darker brown (learning towards the non-risky former). Look forward to seeing the results......
