Culinary tourism in NYC....

https://preview.ibb.co/h7YABa/IMG_1184.jpg

Matzo ball soup in The Eisenberg Sandwich shop in the Flatiron District. Followed by an epic Cuban sandwich .......eaten in tribute to Stanshall

https://preview.ibb.co/eTuTxF/IMG_1185.jpg

Investigating The Lexington Candy Store on Lexington Ave where you can buy sugar laden soft drinks that are mixed on the spot.

https://preview.ibb.co/j18z4v/IMG_1186.jpg

Barney Greengrass in the Upper West Side where you can enjoy superb fish snacks in a blue collar setting. Surprisingly most of the customers seemed like locals rather than yuppies or tourists (like us).

cheers for the Cuban sandwich Woof, I like Eisenberg's, used to live not too far down the street from it, nice food, solid egg creams, and raspberry lime rickeys too ....

Lexington Candy Store had good shrimp salad sandwiches and great fresh lemonade .....

both spots exist in a nice little time warp

Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

Back when I was in the UES I'd go to Neil's Coffee Shop at least three times per week. Simple, unpretentious, quiet. I miss those simpler times. Now I'm often obligated to go to the trending places where they are doing you a favor to seat you. I want to smash all their mirrors and use the shards to...make a mobile.

Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

/\  just my kind of place BB .....

... was going to go out for breakfast this morning but then I got busy, 24 minutes was all it took to get it together at home and I'm thrilled:

one fried egg over easy in Irish butter
five slices of crispy bacon
one piece of buttered toast with orange marmalade from Scotland
mug of PG Tips Yorkshire tea with milk and Demerara sugar cube
one icy glass of pineapple juice

really pleased with myself for not being lazy and for making breakfast at home and washing the dishes and pans too

Re: Coffee bars, diners, forgotten roadside eateries

stan, that sounds idyllic... Nothing like orange marmalade to make a great morning... I haven't dabbled in pineapple juice too much, I'm a diehard grapefruit man myself...

Stan - what exactly are eggs 'over easy'. They sound much better than a fried egg.

"An egg cooked 'over easy' means that it gets fried on both sides, but the yolk stays runny. To make one, you cook the raw egg just until the whites are set on the bottom, then you quickly flip it over to cook the other side. 'Over' refers to flipping the egg, and 'easy' refers to the doneness of the yolk."

Stan's last post is making me think we need an "Ivy recipes" thread! smile

Phillips BBQ, Leimert Park, Los Angeles: hot links heaven.  The grainy, fiery hot sauce, and the insane amount of smoky flavor makes me swoon.  I want to be there right now so badly:
