Re: The Universal Uniform of Über-Euro Males - Wall Street Journal

That did not fail to deliver on the comedy front!

I started laughing when I read the bit about the world's glossiest magazines and the rest fell into place, a tour-de-force of advertising from hair pommade to vintage Daytona's, not to mention Ralphy boys Black Label Jeans. All resplendant with prices.

Vulgar to the extreme, not to mention that this mythical UE doesn't actually exist, beyond the penny-dreadful of the WSJ. And believe it or not, a colleague of mine was recommending the WSJ over the FT only last week. Me thinks, he's been sold a pup!

This got me thinking, when they mention that the ÜE is jogging in a Sunspel polo, do they mean Sunspel is so much post-peak they're only fit for jogging now? I already had a sneaking suspicion but now I suppose I have to face the brutal truth. Better clear out my wardrobe then, it was fun while it lasted...

What sort of idiot buys 15 suits at a pop from a Savile Row tailor. A figment of a journo/pr hacks imagination. That's who.

I like the WSJ, but their music critic is a pompous suffocating bore. The fashion writers are as duly noted, pathetic wannabe brand whores.
Book reviews are generally OK, movie reviews pretty good. The unexpected jewel, automobile reviews- droll, and he obviously loves cars.

Here in the states used to be a fan of the New York Times, but I just can't stand it anymore. They are seriously intoxicated by their own fumes, especially theatre reviews.

Hepcat - I understood you were actively transforming yourself into a Über-Euro male there in the flatlands?

Marlboro Lights are a sure sign of a homosexual, as are any cigarettes with white filters.

Or so I was told by Joe Camel before his untimely death from emphysema.

Dunno, sounds pretty accurate to me, and I'm in Europe all the time.

Longish hair in the neck, jeans and blazer, driving shoes, white polo shirt with the collared popped. Few about like that here.

Rocking traditional, current and classic Italian Ivy since 2011.

There was no mention of "polo" shirts, unless Charvet makes some.
