Something I have noticed of late that really frustrates me.
There seems to be a trend of sellers buying items that are listed at a fair price and then listing the same item themselves at a much higher mark up.
Is it just me who finds this a rather under hand way of operating? I’m all for a seller sourcing amazing items at an estate sale or a thrift store, but to outbid someone who actually wants to wear the item and then try sell it on at a profit just seems very underhand.
Sadly the latest instance of this is from a forumee, and it has meant I now have no interest in buying anything off this person and have informed all my comrades of this persons meathods.

I have desire to name and shame, it’s just really disappointing that it’s a member of the forum.
Also knowing an item is relisted at double the sale price makes me think is this the case for all their stock, I’m not against the free market, but putting a snipe bid on an item with the intention of selling it on at an inflated price is offensive to other bidders. Very different to bid and find it doesn’t fit and then offer to others.
If they then list it on the forum to those who were probably bidding would be a slap in the face.

Most of the other forums I'm on there are certain sections only members can see, is it time for an upgrade? Leaving most of the forum open, but just a very small area closed- maybe as I've suggested just a sales section?
I try to always post my stuff in the clothes for swap/ sale thread as agreed years ago. I often do it first before fleabay. I haven't sold anything on here in a long time and would probably get more watchers or money if I put it in here, but those are the rules. Still see members putting their links into here, despite the often expressed rules. We don't have to be too strict about most things, but this sort of thing there should be some sense of honour about.

Yeah I get what your saying Berkley. To get those functions would probably require an upgrade and we might have to work out how that would be paid for, since if this place was to cost FNB to host that's maybe not fair.
I may not wear much Ivy these days, but since my tastes are mostly late 40s to mid 50s there's some cross over. I don't wanna see this place abused, especially by our so called peers.

I’m not going to name and shame anyone, the seller has told me it was an error and unintentional so I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. But as I said, it is a trend I have seen increasingly over the past year or so, sometimes from online vintage sellers who have nice items at a sensible price and then relisted on Etsy/eBay for silly money.
Hopefully the issue with the mentioned seller was a one off.

I rarely sell anything anymore. During my recent purge, I unloaded the bulk of the stuff on a consignment seller, and made back my shipping costs anfd enough extra for a decent box of cigars.
The reasons I don't bother selling things are:
1. The two major platforms, eBay and Etsy, are a pain in the neck to use. And they both take a decent chunk of the proceeds, eBay getting two bites with its ownership of PayPal.
2. If I post things on the forums I get swamped with insane questions. How does this shoe compare to the Snodgrass XYZ last in 12AAA? I'm 5'5" and 357 pounds -- will these pants fit my thighs? (This doesn't happen on FNB. FNB buyers want to talk about ways to get around customs, a discussion I am happy to have.)
3. Far too many people try to lower the already knock-down price.
4. The deck is stacked against the seller on eBay. the company almost always sides with the buyer, even if the claim is absurd.
5. The hell with it.
Once in a great while I'll spot something at a thrift store that's not my size but too good to pass up, and I'll post it on the forums and/or send it to the consignment guy.
But the idea of making a regular practice of it -- naaah.

You are of course right on all those points Patrick. It’s an utter ball ache and you get ripped royal as a buyer or seller, sadly for those of us out of the US there is little else except the odd vintage store with a decent online presence. Occasionally we get a cheeky treat in a local store.
