The 'Not Jazz At All' Thread

KingstonIan, for one, might relate to this.
Others won't.
I've been a devotee of Noel Coward since around the age of twenty one.  Buy a CD and marvel at the wit of the man.
But today, following Blossom Dearie and Dusty, I've just enjoyed Douglas Byng's 'I'm One Of The Queens Of England'.  Which indeed dear old Douglas was.
Anthony Newley is another favourite: 'What Kind Of Fool Am I?'
I treasure wit.  And, from time to time, sentiment.

Re: The 'Not Jazz At All' Thread

Just received a CD of Irene Kral through the post.  There are two songs by Noel Coward.
Blossom Dearie covered Coward and Newley, amongst others,

You can't go wrong with Noel Coward especially the 1955 Live in Las Vegas album with him drinking tea in the desert on the cover.

Yes, thanks for the tip. Good to listen to something fresh and new. Kim Tibbs

Just seen The Zombies, I expected they'd disappoint, but was very impressed with how tight they were and an excellent set. Great ending with A Time of the Season and an extended version of The Argents Hold Your Head Up.

Re: The 'Not Jazz At All' Thread

Yes it is. The album is good, modern but with the classic feel. Only her second album ever I think.

The Lindsey Webster new album is worth hearing but I feel not quite as strong as her last one

Candace Woodson's new album is enjoyable, maybe a touch too consistently uptempo but fun mixed inwith others.

Young Gun Silver Fox should bring some warm Yacht Soul on their new album later in the month.

The recent Teddy Pendergrass carefully done remix album is ace and Tom Moulton's 'Spring Event' is brilliant.

AUS
We have similar tastes. I love the new Lindsey Webster album too.

There are also some new Strata tracks worth listening too

Don’t know Candace Woodson so will check that out.

Re: The 'Not Jazz At All' Thread

Great to see AlveySinger. As you will know there is lots of great Soul and related new music around. Strata, yes I like the Soulful end of their music, similar to my thoughts on MF Robots too. Some acts lose me when the Jazz Funk aspect takes over.

Thee Sacred Souls is another, 60s sounding Modern Soul release worth getting.

Candace Woodson has been building for a while, her album on Expansion was great (as is just about anything on Expansion as usually know). This one is good but less varied (and digital only so far). She is now one of the acts on the Soul Legends tour along with a lot of 80s acts so her profile is growing.

Re: The 'Not Jazz At All' Thread

Phil Lynott's two solo albums. A few fillers, but in the most part have dated very well.
