Many moons ago this was discussed on here. Can't find the thread now.
The basic premise was that for specific styles of trouser certain shoes work better.
I think one might have been that for Bills M1 - given how full cut these were – it was better to wear them short with Alden LHS.
I'm certainly finding that for my dainty, unlined Rancourt loafers a narrower chino, that breaks a bit higher, looks good whereas Sebago beef rolls are fine with denim but can look a bit clunky with light coloured trousers.
The thread about chinos has started me thinking.
As a forum of clothing obsessives it would be nice to hear other peoples thoughts.
Now this is interesting...it was me thinking about loafers that stimulated my post about chinos.
I always wear my chinos straight leg and rolled up a little.
I have just taken delivery of the deerskin Berwick grain loafers, which definitely are more for chinos than denim. That was my thinking in buying them too - specifically stimulated by going through airports much more again and not wanting to have to unlace shoes at security.
I don't wear denim anymore but it would take a chunkier loafer such as those from Paraboot better I would envisage. Certainly the drill fabric 'jeans' I wear, take a chunkier shoe well.
