In my local pub there are two men who always wear leather Aussie bush hats. By coincidence they both are named Matt and hence both are called 'Matt the hat'. 'Candy Man' Matt, about 60 years old, stands at the end of the bar, discretely carrying out his business. Our Matt, an old Hungarian (85 years old) 5, sits with us and doesn't usually take his hat off. As a young man he worked in Australia, living in the bush, and hunting crocodiles. He has had the hat a long time. Both hats suit both men.
Kingstonian - The man at Brentford was in some sort of period costume or historical mindset. I was looking to see if he got any abuse, but I did not see any while he was in sight -
Kingy, I can assure you he would have got plenty of abuse back in the day when I lived in Brentford ! haha

My first thought on reading this was that he must be a Mississippi John Hurt fan. One of my all time favourite artists. But reading the end of the sentence it sounds more like he's a coke dealer. I'm a little surprised the landlord has not barred him, although of course I don't know the area or any of the people in question.
We have recently told the landlady about 'goings on' in the pub. She replied 'point them out to me'. No way would we do that. The guy may well be a Mississipi John Hurt fan. He is one of the coolest guys in the pub.
Bush hats in a pub. Must be something that only happens down South.
I can't imagine seeing that in Brum.
But then again what passes for beer down South is different too. LOL
Well you have nice mild in Brum. Lovely pubs in Digbeth too - but I would not want to live there.
Currently drinking a nice pint of Nethergate mild in a Spoons with a garden in Ipswich.
Not sure how East Anglia is classified. More South than North I suppose.
