Re: A Brand New Trad !

"Ted" is "Ted" on SF every so often. On AAAC he has another name. I'm pretty sure I know who he is, but - honour amongst piss-takers (even retired ones like me!) - Let Ted out himself if he wants. I'm happy for him to snipe at me or not, but, as I say, he really shouldn't bother other forum members.
Maybe he should start a 'Miles & Ted' thread to keep all this stuff in one area?

Miles

PS I think your name is lovely, Amelie.

Re: A Brand New Trad !

I decided to post to this thread because of the references to jazz and trad.

I am not sure African American jazz musicians adopted this look because it was the prevailing style. Brooks Brothers has, and continues to have enormous cache among African Americans. In fact, the natural shouldered, conservatively cut  traditional look never went out of style iamong a certain generation in the AA community. My father was a proponent, and I continue to see it every Sunday, along with the fedora, another item which never lost its popularity among African American men. I continue to try to wear the traditional look, but augment it with what I hope are judicious uses of color. I don't think too many of the trads on AAAC are fond of Marinella/Canali ties, or  would wear them with modified spread collar shirts for instance. In fact, I call myself a traddish dandy or "trandy" with an emphasis on the small t.

Miles based his two button look on the Brooks 3 button sack, and I believe his drummer, Roy Haynes, is still an Andover Shop customer. The Modern Jazz Quartet also loved the trad look.

Are you mad cubicrube?
I shake my nightshirt at you, Sir!

Well... OK, you're spot on again. Fair play to you.

I just want my Ted back so I can kick him again.
Ours is a special relationship... I'm not saying it's healthy... Just 'special'.

Smiles.   ;-)

Re: A Brand New Trad !

Check out this message that Daniele posted on AAAC (you'll have to scroll down a bit).  It's a quotation from the lead singer of Dexy's Midnight Runners: he meditates on the fact that clothing of rebellion on one continent was the clothing of conservatives on another:

http://www.askandyaboutclothes.com/forum/showthread.php?p=357552#post357552

How weird would that be:  to see something that what you wore in your rebellious youth in one country is a standard conservative "uniform"  in another.
