Re: Ivy League style for today

Mister Raincoat said...

"No, actually, I think in England now it's hard to be noticed, to attract attention.  But you don't really want that.  You want to be able to move around unhindered, comfortable with your own knowledge: history of product, colour, texture, the way you're wearing it.  My suits get noticed but the person who notices can't fathom why.  What's different about it?
Ivy in America was about belonging to the right set.  Ivy in the UK isn't.  Ivy in the UK is playing a game of pretending to belong to the right set (and J.Press sometimes strike me that they're playing that game, too, now), in the sense that the man wearing the blue suit wants to be taken for Clark Clifford hurrying to the Oval Office, not Anthony Eden about to explain away Suez.
No 'mindset'.  No tribalism.  Plain bloody eccentricity."

You have a distinct knack of being able to sum things up and make real sense of a debate old chum. Keep on keepin' on!

Re: Ivy League style for today

Nice jacket Mister Rath. Needs a bit of breaking in though. Can I suggest dragging it behind the bike for a few miles, it's an old rockers trick. What are the Red Wings you are wearing? Engineers?

No matter how much I wear it, this coat is impervious to wear. By the time its broken in I will be too old to ride.

Yes, engineers

Re: Ivy League style for today

Due to the influence of Marlon Brando, The Velvet Underground, the Clash and Tom Waits to name a few, I spent many a year of my life in engineer boots. I tried many types including Carolinas and Chippawas, but Red Wings are the kings.

i like bluemagic's style a lot.

every item is modern(please correct me if i'm wrong) but it's unmistakably ivy. good work!

i am taking influence from a 1964 American Wrangler Jeans advert from 1964(i'll try and post it up later)...

White Keds Champions
Grey socks from Jack Wills
Dark, dry denim Wrangler 2frz(really really tapered) jeans with a turn up
Grey Fred Perry polo shirt
Red lambswool cardigan from Uniqlo

That's the thing about old American buildings... They're not very old. They always look like they have been brought from a Hollywood back-lot or they're part of a Disney Harry Potter theme ride.

Patrick. Tonight I shall raise a glass to Jonathan Scoville, and his magnificent legacy. God bless us one and all...
