Anyone use these shops? Nottingham is stuffed with them. Lots of sodding students, you see. Also an Oxfam clothes shop, offering plenty of overpriced tat.
These shops come and go. 'Backlash' is the worst, run by a complete wanker. Mostly 70s crap. 'Daphne's Handbag' is fun, offering plenty of white Levi jackets, hideous furniture and knick-knacks. Run by a couple of screaming queens. The best, 'Glad Rags', has possibly gone now. Nothing very exciting for the Ivy-hardliner, but plenty of Lyle and Scott, Chipie and casual-style sportswear. Mostly cheap.
Overall, though, 70s dreck nobody in their right mind would even have bought at the time. What a vile period that was, 68-75. England my England!
Charity shops are better.
Never heard of them . Never used charity shops either. I suspect there is plenty I could donate though.
All the talk was that good quality clothes were available in upscale area charity shops -Kensington etc.
Not much second hand stuff I would wear. Coats yes. Jackets yes. Nothing else. All the Ivy stuff you see on the net seems to be size 40 chest. No good to me.
I have never been to car boot sale in my life either. They seem like real time stealers.
I think you saw that nice pair of Church brogues S&B reckoned he'd had out of a basket someplace. Very untypical IMO, yet it does happen. I had two pairs of tan Loakes about 15 years ago. £2.50 a pair.
Car boots tend to be pathetic.
For the first time in...well, an eon at least...I saw a pair of Sebago's in a vintage shop the other day. But they were too small. Fuck, damn and blast.
Sorry, bit of frustration there, perhaps you could tell
Post- Longacre's Flip, I'd echo Stace - Bristol's Uncle Sam's is the best I've found. The Oxford Uncle Sam's sux.
Never knew about the Evesham shop. Interestin'. An unlikely location.
Ta!
