Robert Elms on about 'mod' on Radio London at the moment

I am - er - 'working from home'.

I was hoping he would do another London bus route to appeal to my inner anorak.

On about Georgie Fame and mohair suits. Nice to hear some proper Londoners.

Re: Robert Elms on about 'mod' on Radio London at the moment

I enjoyed his book, but I've never really got over what a pompous bell end he was in the 80's. All those  'Northern scum' remarks didn't go down too well.

On about desert boots now. Two eye holes de rigeur. Elms gets his in Jermyn Street.

Posh architect Maxwell Hutchinson was a mod and in a soul band too, which surprised me. He went hippy at university though.

Re: Robert Elms on about 'mod' on Radio London at the moment

robert elms- the ultimate "I" specialist. the format of the show is very good, and if you can tolerate his egomania, which a lot of people can't, it is really informative. listen out for the way he changes his accent to fit in with the piece, it's hilarious. and as a lifelong brentford fan, i wish he'd shut up about those poxy queens pork strangers.
the mod thing today was ok especially those who phoned in to reminisce, but i had to laugh at the long tale about how they scoured the earth for tonic fabric and couldn't find it anywhere, but eventually found it. in a shop specializing in mod gear...

... I have old Elms stories from my BBC days & my wife's time at Elle Magazine in the 80's...

It's easy to say that he doesn't know what he's talking about, but you can never say that he doesn't know what he's doing.

Re: Robert Elms on about 'mod' on Radio London at the moment

fantastic- 3 bees fans on one forum, that's more than there is on the griffin park grapevine! great news for bfc this week with a fan piling in to the tune of £5,000,000.00p to more or less save the club from folding. ealing road is where i go these days, in sperry (summer) spotless timberland boots or paraboots (winter), tiger of sweden or evisu jeans, and fjällräven jackets, which i have for any and every weather from tropical to arctic. but enough about football- back to topic. above criticisms notwithstanding, the robert elms show is very very good and i choose to tune in most days. the things that some people find irritating, i find quite entertaining, such as the accent switching and desperately trying to outdo his expert guests. my brother has met him and says he's he's a diamond, well (i countered cleverly, like a wise old chess master) if he was a genuine diamond he wouldn't have any affection for those loathesome disgusting blue and white hooped scruffs from shepherds bush would he??
re brentford pubs; it is indeed a superb location in which to quench one's thirst, you can easily spot the places to avoid and you don't need to walk far to find the next watering hole. and if you go to the white horse (i refuse to call it "the weir") you have a very good chance of drinking under the same roof as the great nick lowe.

I'm a bit tired of all this "Cor blimey, ee's a real tasty geezer" Guy Richie faux cockney bollocks. Every shandy drinking southern bell end is at it. All this "My granny drank with the Krays". Dick Van Dyke bullshit. I wish they'd knock it off. I liked it better in the '80's when all the London crowd all wanted to be european or Wall Street movers and shakers. Now they all want to be Arthur Fuckin' Mullard.
