The Sudden, Unexplained Death of Friends

I have just lost a couple of friends, in unexplained circumstances, at the same time. Has anyone else suffered this type of sad loss?

Re: The Sudden, Unexplained Death of Friends

Only once, when my uncle committed suicide, the devastation was complete and utter. That was 21 years ago now and the loss and bitterness reverberates still: who didn't do enough, why so much shame and who didn't see the signs and who was to blame? A family cannot survive such a sheer experience intact, was it susceptible genetics, bad parenting in his youth, talent wasted on that factory line? And the answers can never be found.

Other than that, touch wood, the deaths have all been long expected after illness and decline over years, or a long life. Others, on the periphery of distance friends of associates and colleagues have succumbed to cancer very quickly, or heart attacks (but that doesn't seem to be the killer it once was) and one lady in our street was killed in a car crash and the son of my mother's next door neighbour died in a heroin induced coma a couple of years back. But no one really close.

Of course, there was our fellow poster and friend, Liam on here. That came out of the blue and shocked us all to our senses.

You state "unexplained circumstances", I assume the coroner will investigate and confirm the cause of death?

Re: The Sudden, Unexplained Death of Friends

Never lost anyone to "unexplained" circumstances.  Have known plenty of people that have died suddenly and unexpectedly, most from auto accidents and drug overdoses.  Thankfully no one I was personally exceptionally close to.  One most recently, a very great person and a VERY talented fellow drummer, fell to his death in a freak accident in an elevator shaft.  He tried to jump out of an elevator that had stalled between floors.  He and another rider managed to get the doors opened.  The first guy jumped down to the next floor and when my acquaintance went to follow, his belt got snagged on part of the elevator.  This flung him up under the elevator and then he fell 7 or 8 floors to his death.  Horrendous.

Sorry for your losses Gilbert.

Like WM, I haven't had any "unexplained" ones, but I have had some back to back losses, and truthfully, it's something I have never fully gotten over even years later. Very difficult.

I am very embarrassed because I meant i-'friends'.

I've had many friends die mysterious, unexplained deaths. I was at work.
