Not sure if anyone has noticed there are a few of the SS22 s/s shirts dropped into their sale items, most sizes,
Just my luck. A Beach Boy style shirt, in my size, on sale at J Simon's and I'm not around to buy it! I'd need to try it on first, what with JSs shirt size reputation and all that.
Robbie - I think the sizing issues have calmed down, there is a size chart on the pages showing the shirts, reach out and find your inner Dennis Wilson, ( I think he was the only one who could surf !), off on a tangent have you heard the BB's ' Holland' album, ('73'ish) ? , v.good ,
heard the BB's ' Holland' album, ('73'ish) ? , v.good
Good album, Sail On Sailor, stand out track IMO Stax
Stax- I can be a bit fussy with shirt sizes as I'm between M & L
and I would have to try before I buy (and I'm back in Finland for a few weeks)
I have heard the Holland Album and agree good album
During the hot spell I had the BBs on Spotify all day long
Sail On Sailor.. yes! Anyone see that Brian Wilson gig at Glastonbury a few years ago? What tunes, what players, what arrangements. And it's obligatory to wear white levis and a block stripe blue and white half sleeve Ivy button-down when listening to the chaps or it just doesn't sound the same.
So it’s not just jazz & soul that hits the spot with us Ivy chaps, SoS- RG you’re right a great track,
I’m in a reflective mood today as it was my cousins funeral, Tunes at the funeral
‘Let’s twist again ‘ Chubby Checker,
I love you because ‘ Jim Reeves,
There’ll Always be an England - Chas & Dave, haha,
Apparently Roger won a twist competition in 1962’ish !
I've been listening to a lot of mid to late 70's AOR recently Stax, Steely Dan, Doobies, Hall & Oates & Boz Scaggs etc.
RG - I like the sound of your playlist, Abandon Luncheonette by H&O is one of my all time top 10 albums, I have the original vinyl but also cd just to be sure! Going a bit off subject here, sorry !
Ha ha no worries Stax, Abandoned Luncheonette is one of the albums I've been playing along with The DB's "Takin' It to the Streets".
Staying off topic I can relate to the tunes at your cousin's funeral Stax.
Let's twist again was played a lot at family parties when a record player was introduced instead of aunts playing the piano. A dance that all could join in, young and old.
Jim Reeves, a favourite of my Irish mates mums.
Chas and Dave- I saw them play live in a pub near Bromley by Bow when they were just starting out. Didn't know who they were and we could barely get through the pub door. We stayed for a few songs and then left. Six months later I realised who we were watching.
H & O I will have to check out . I remember a female architect I worked with liking them a lot.
With regards to H&O Robbie, albums from 1973 to 1981 is their best work IMO.
Robbie - RG is right about H&O, I was a big fan, saw them @ Hammersmith Odeon in '77, Abandoned Luncheonette & their next album , (I always called it the silver album, but it was probably just called Hall & Oates), are the best of theirs for me, blue eyed soul at it's best, they went too poppy after that but I carried on loyally buying their albums, Also, Daryl Hall made a couple of good solo albums in the '90's,( ' Soul Alone' is worth a listen ),
Our family parties were just the same as yours,
RG - did you see the 2 part documentary the BBC did a couple of years ago called ' Yacht Rock' covering all the bands you've mentioned, it was presented by that American woman Katie ( Puckitt ?), she must have been in her 50's when they made the docu but wow she was in magnificent shape !
Yes Stax I did, enjoyed it so much I kept it on the TiVo so I can re-watch anytime.
Katie Puckrick definitely in good shape for a woman of her age.

I would much prefer listening to Country n Irish than modern jazz.
It’s just clothes - not a lifestyle.
Mind you, all the venues are now gone. From The National in Kilburn to The Galtymore. The craic is no longer good in Cricklewood.
K- That's a good story about Jim Reeves
An Irish mate of mine moved from London to Sheffield about 25 years ago. Recently he went back to visit Kilburn and surrounding areas and he was very upset that it had all gone or changed beyond recognition
Yes it’s all Halal now.
The Crown pub in Cricklewood is now a four star hotel. The National in Kilburn is a black Pentecostal church.

I saw Katie Puckrick in Pizza Express Wardour Street in 1990. God, I fancied her something rotten.
The latest ‘doorway’ picture on John Simons facebook page features a guy who reminds me of Ricky Tomlinson, wearing jeans, a white tee shirt and pretty dire Vans slip on canvas shoes. Not very Ivy I thought. Then I realised it was Allesandro Squarzi, someone from the Instagram world who commands great reverence in that world. Still not very Ivy I thought.
Quote: Then I realised it was Allesandro Squarzi
Lurking on his IG page from time to time over the years, I think he flirts with some elements of Ivy i.e. Alden shoes, OCBD's etc.
Been photographed by Jamie Ferguson (JFK_man on IG) so probably falls under the banner of I-Gent, flash cars, expensive watches & worldwide travel.

Had a look on Facebook as far as I could without being a member.
Oriental chap in the doorway is the smartest and the lass in the pink shirt is fine.
Suit bloke - clothes are too tight and wrinkled. Vetra man? Oh dear!
Got down further, past the Royal Enfield motorbike. The black fellow looks OK in a beige raincoat and trousers. On me it would just look full pensioner though. Victor Meldrew rides again.
I like the description of a ‘loyal customer’ who has shopped there for six years!
Looking on the main site now.
Brown corduroy suits don’t look good on black men either.
Do you reckon I'd qualify for a doorway shot after being a 'loyal customer' for 54 years !, Vetra man - needs to have a word with himself, at least the cap covered his ' Mod '65 haircut ', haha
